i got hold of a 1934 ford truck cab and bed. gona do it up hi-boy style cause its already got a 5 inch chop done. i want to use 32 rails and put a 427 bbc i got in the barn in it. what id like to know is if the 32 rails will work out right. wheel base , whith wise, or any thing else i should know about. basic question, will the body go on the frame with little trouble. will i need to shorten the bed? also how do you tell the difference between a '32'33'34 truck? some pics of hi-boy trucks would be cool . thanks . james

    1) 1932 Ford truck cabs have a firewall that bolts out ... 33 & 34 are welded to the cab and they stick out further ...
    2) 1932's were 106 inch wheelbase
    3) 1933 - 1934's were 112 inch wheelbase
    4) the ribs on the back of the cabs are different 32 to 34

    A 33 - 34 Cab will work on a 32 chassis ... hiboy style ...

The Black one is a 32 ... the Yellow one a 33 - 34 ... see the 6 inches difference in the wheelbase ( behind the cab ... before the rear wheels )

The red one is a 32 ... and the primer one is a 33 -34 ... look at the firewall differences ... the 33 -34 firewall sticks out ... :)

A LOT of the trucks listed or titled as 32's are in fact 33 -34 cabs ...

The 32-33 have a two-bead back panel reveal but the 34 only has the three-bead reveal with the large one on top.
The 32 uses rubbercovered runningboards just like the passenger cars. The 33-34 pickups have diamond stamped runningboards.
There are many more minor differences in the cabs, that chassis are totally different.

The 33-34 bed will have to be shortened to work on a Deuce frame. Look at the pictures above. The distance from the back of the cab to the center of the wheel well is longer on the longer wheel base 33-34 trucks than the 106" Deuce trucks. The bed can be shortened in that area to make it work on a Deuce frame.

It seems to me that 1/2 of the hot rod "Deuce" P/Us that I see have 33/34 cabs.:D Nobody notices.

Here are some shots of my 33 on a 32 chassis. The 33 firewall has been replaced with a 32.

Do you have anymore photos of the black '32 with red wheels? It has the proportions I am going for.

    Thanks!

According to the owner, this is a 33 on 32 rails.

It doesn't have anything to do with the cab, but this must have a 103" wheelbase. Damn I love these trucks!

I have built 2 PUs using 33 cabs on 32 rails. One thing I like is the 33 firewall made it a little easier to install air under dash than the 32. Both were titled as 32s.

i have a 33 cab and im going to run a 34 frame because i already have it but i want to run 32 car grill with 32 hood top and sides could someone give me an answer on what will have to be done to make this all look like a 32 other than frame and firewall can i run a 32 hood with the 33 firewall????

  13. the 34 has a shorter hood i belive to compensate for the deeper grill shell. this is going to be a bit of a mix and match but probly do able. as far as the firwall part, shouldnt have any bearing on which hood you use. the banding around the cowl is the same. just what is inside it is different.

good info, but nobody pointed out the 33-34 radiator mounts ahead of the crossmember and 32 radiator mounts over the crossmember. Also 32 frame is straight from firewall out, and 33-34 heads upward.

If a guy wanted to run a 32 grill, and consequently a 32 radiator, are there and height issues to worry about? Like if you mount a 32 rad in the stock 33-4 location, will it be the right height or will you have to space it up or what? Not rocket surgery I know, just trying to get a visual in my head.

i installed a 32 grill on the my 34 truck i am working on ,and looks good the only issue is that you have to raise it in order to clear cross member but its not a big issue we just welded new mounting brackets just enough to clear cross member hope this helps.

  17. Any pictures?

  18. The cabs are remarkably similar and I can never remember the differences, if someone tells me I bought a '34 cab I usually just have to take their word for it.

    Good info.

Shortening the bed is no biggy, get the cab where it is supposed to be then set the bed on and shorten what needs to be shortened to get the wheels to line up with the reveal.

  19. Another long dead thread comes to life,I'm sure the OP has found out all he need so I am going to post a photo of my pal Dave's 34 pickup cab on Deuce rails.

We removed and extended the mounts at the bottom of the 34 firewall to bolt to the 32 frame,,everything else was pretty straight froward.

  20. Dead thread or not,
we can't get enough of these trucks!
    HRP, that one's looking sharp!
