I am looking to chop my 49 Silver Streak Coupe and wanted to see if anyone has any pointers on the road I should travel on this one.
My budy Jake chopped his 50 pontiac. here is a pic and there are more on our website. you can also contact him through our site, he may have advice for you. I recall he made new sail panels, so you may need an english wheel or access to one. But you don't have to make new panels. Not much different than a Chevy, so you may talk to some chevy guys as a lot of them have been chopped. good luck
can we bring this back to life ? I have a 49 Pontiac Silver Streak Sedanette ( Fast back ) and I want to chop it as well . So calling all GM cars of that era in that body style ! Lets see your chop !
pretty much the same as a chevy. iv got heaps of pictures of chopped chevys cause I'm planning to chop my 51 but not on this commuter il try and upload some tomorrow
Thanks I'll keep checking . I have found a few things on here and I think I have found the direction I'm heading but you never know till the cutin starts !
Flops posts are great but it's not the "Torpedo back" style of my car . I have to tilt and squish my trunk lid and all that . Might even section it ? It's a good clean car and I got it fairly cheap ................. hope I don't mess it up though.
From the cowl back the body is identical to a Chevy except for trim, taillights, and possibly the rear wheel arch shape. And of course the dash. My '50 Fleetline has most of the glass from a '50 Pontiac Streamliner, that I put in it. When you look for pictures watch that you get actual coupes and not the notch-back 2-door sedan, though.
I can see how this whole lowrider / leadsled thing is so addicting ! There is some real nice metal work on these pages and some serious attitude to a lot of these rides . Nice stuff guys ! I like the 56 / 57 style rear wheel openings a few posts up . I'll have to get some good pics of mine as it happens ! It's covered in snow right now though :-( Here's a 51 I had about 5yrs ago but never touched it , it was low miles all original and 1 owner . Drove it and then sold to put money down on the house .
Is it a fastback? If so that will take some more work, but it will be worth it. I love chopped fastbacks and respect well done ones.
I've made some progress on mine since I first saw this thread , 55 Chevy dash , 55 Olds tail sections , chopped 4 1/2". My first chop .
