You can always go and reset your PC to an earlier point in time. It's called "system restore". If your PC is really out to lunch, shut it down and when it boots, hit the F8 key and it starts in a safe mode. If you have the book that came with the PC, it tells you how to do it and it takes like 5 minutes. If not, you can find it online. Bob
Hey Bob that was some good hot sheet fluffing enlightenment.I just did the system restore and everything is working properly again. Thanks
Welcome, all you have to do is go back maybe a week. It can be done again if you run into problems down the road. Make sure you have a firewall that is always active. I had a brand new PC, my father inlaw is over, gets bored and downloads Party Poker or some ******* game site like it. Nothin' but pop ups... like WTF? My sister inlaw is another winner, goes on my PC for 5 minutes and the thing is as infected as a ****** in lower Rhodesia. Now the PC is off limits to all guests, I have wifi at home, when you visit, bring your effing laptop! Bob
The SYSTEM CHECK VIRUS cannot be completly removed by malwarebytes or System Restore. That will partially fix things but not everything. It puts copies of it's self in the System Restore folder and re-installs it's self. It is a very involved process. See the link to the forum below. It's a ***** to get rid of. http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic175809.html My friend had it on her machine.
Go to the following link and download Spybot - Search and Destroy. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html By far one of the better programs available.
Good to try out if you can install it, my old PC was so fubar I wasn't able to load any anti-virus program! Bob
Man, I feel your pain. No matter what you do at this point you are going to feel like it isnt enough ... good luck.
As someone above said, use Microsoft's own security product. I used to buy aftermarket security packages until about 6 months ago. Then, Microsoft got their **** together and came up with their own free system that seems to work as well as the "paid for" ones. Google "Microsoft Security Essentails" and install it. The only bad thing is that if your system has not been regularly updated, it can take several hours for the system to bring itself up to current and finally install the security stuff. That's not really a bad thing however as keeping your system up to date will help eliminate stuff like this. I know how you feel, getting hit once myself. What would motivate someone to do something like this?
I am grateful every time I see these horror stories that I got a Mac years ago. I feel so sorry for anyone who is putting up with that horrible piece of **** called Windows masquerading as an operating system and I spent the a lot of my career in systems development. I never have to worry about a thing....
Shes going to UNLV so last year we got a mac for 2 grand, not even 6 months after that she dropped it and the screen got messed up and the battery would not hold charge so we had to buy this dell.we have 3 laptops and this is the only one that works,if I can get the mac repaired....
I´ve always been happy with Avira. Thats totally free. As good as they are, spending double the money for a machine with less features just doesn´t make sense to me.
Yep. I went on there first thing this morning after dropping the kids off at school, since this wonderful world was down, and BAM! My security popped up and said something to thr effect of No bueno, we're closing this **** down! Then the couple hour shutdown turned inyo six hours!!!! Aaahhhhhhh!!! But now it's back and I'm now happy again!
malwarebytes forum WILL help you untill it gets cleaned out- i dont know if what another poster is true about MB not being able to get rid of it, but the forum is very helpful and will stick with you until you solve it... just follow their exact instructions.
Hi iwanaflattie<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_7407226", true); </SCRIPT> ..Dont know what format Windows you are using ...if I get any virus or malware problems... I save what I need ie: photos..do***ents.. and check it with with a virus/malware checker and reformat...this will get rid of any nasties lurking in your computer....I usually do this every 12 months anyway....I use to have Norton for 12 years...but the latest Norton 360 slows down the computer to much...I just use the Microsoft security essentials now and haven't had any problems...cels can get virus and are hard to fix...... Doug
It's easy to see how people get fooled into clicking these fake warnings and offers to scan your system. They look very legitimate and appear to have been generated by your computer because the Window that opens is usually gray with a blue ***le bar, just like the default Windows color scheme. Since most everyone uses this default color scheme, the Window with the fake warning looks legit. But there's an easy way to make these bogus warnings stand out. I've made it a habit to always run my computers with something other than the default Windows color scheme. If you haven't tried this before, it's really pretty simple. Minimize or close any open Windows to view your desktop. Right click on an open area of your desktop and then left click on "Properties". Then click the "Appearance" tab and click the drop-down menu marked "Color Scheme". Click on some of the Color Scheme choices till you find one to your liking. "Desert" and "Teal" are fairly easy on the eyes. Make your choice, click "Apply" and then click "OK" to save your changes. Then open your web browser or some other Window and check out your new color scheme. You'll get used to it quickly. But the main advantage is that when your Windows have, say, a tan backgound and a green ***le bar and one of these phony warnings pops up and it's got a gray background and a blue ***le bar at the top, it'll get your attention. And you'll know that the warning didn't come from your computer system.
It would seem you are right, as I got whacked this morning and had just hit on some Powerstroke stuff on FTE- had several tabs open. Just got up again a bit ago- not fun
is there anything you can do when you already have a blue screen?{dell computer}i do not have any paper work/disc for it,it died a year ago & been collecting dust since,i have NO computer knowledge at all,-----chuck
See post #7 in this thread. Hopefully, you can go back far enough to find a good operating system. Then get one of the free products (my choice is Microsoft Security essent ials) and get it cleaned up right.
