Any hotel suggestions? I have never been to the swap meet. With the cir de solely in town might bring wifey.
There are some good motels near the end of Marine Drive in Troutdale. Marine drive goes straight to the Expo Center, about 12 miles away.
The Expo Center is on the Max (light rail) line, so you could also stay Downtown (pretty much all of the hotels downtown are within a couple blocks of a station) and have a more enjoyable stay with lots of other things to do. It would also make for convenient access to the Rose Garden or South Waterfront, which are the places where Cirque du Soleil is usually set up, depending on which one it is. Even if you have a rental car, I would definitely take Max anyway, Parking for the swap meet is a royal pain in the ***.
Last year we stayed at the Hilton in Vancouver just across the river.Got 2 room with 2 queen size beds in each for $78 per night per room. Made reservations on line through booking outfit ( xpedia etc.) Big 6 near the swap meet was over $120 per night.
cir de solely ***holes.. Took up all of 7000 area at the swap... As for the hotel thing if you want a different adventure the mcminamins edgefeild in troutdale about 15 miles from the swapmeet check out there web site a fun place to go..
This shows the motels reasonably close to the Expo center. http://hotelguides.com/oregon/portland-metropolitan-exposition-center-or-hotels.html One thing to remember is that a lot of guys book their rooms as soon as they find out when the swap meet is going to be held. Parking is the pits to deal with but lugging parts on and off the shuttle bus or the Max isn't exactly a piece of cake either.
Another recommendation for the Hilton in Vancouver, or even the Red Lion at the Quay. Just a hop skip over the I-5 bridge and you'll hit the expo.
Stayed at the Oxford Suites last year. They had a free shuttle to and from the swap meet going all weekend. And the free breakfast is a plus. Already got my room booked for this year same place. http://www.oxfordsuitesportland.com/
