Does anyone make a C-notch that looks more natural ( not boxy with square tubing cut and welded ) I really don't like the "z" look. I know I can make my own out of flat stock and I know I could find one the right frame thickness from a another vehicle but I was hoping someone out there has bent a C channel into the shape of a C-notch. Any ideas? I'm building a 36 international truck. Thanks
Why make them from "flat stock"? Get the diameter you want, cut a piece of off round tubing, slice it in half and you have just fabricated two of them. Use the same wall thickness as the frame rail.
Welders Series makes weld together frame curves in various sizes you may be able to get to work to make a smooth curve. They are an alliance member.
I am looking for more of an arched frame look like 117Harv did. Im going to check out welders series. thanks so far
Sounds like you want a "full" notch, and not a c-notch. C-notch usually describes a relief in the stuck frame rail, which is why people are recommending round pipe. If you want to cut all the way through the frame, Welders Series bend chunks would work great, and they have easy and hard way bends to choose from. Or, grab a sheet of 3/16" plate and cut whatever profile you want.
Also, Thorbeck Bros sells a round profile notch kit. I used one in an OT vehicle a few years ago. Worked fine, but doesn't provide any more actual clearance than typical square notches... just doesn't look so square. http://thorbros.com/notches/round-8-step-notch-kit-sold-pairs
Art Morrison has some nice pieces bent out of rectangular tube . http://artmorrison.com/layout.php?y=store/&x=components
