Hey, I just joined the HAMB last night (although I have been a "lurker" for a while), after searching for straight front axle info. I am a die hard Ford fan, as my profile shows (although the rest of my family is die hard Chevy). The two cars I am working on currently are probably the ones that most HAMBers are interested in; my 1956 Ford Mainline 2 door that was raced here in SE Virginia in B/Modified Production (FE power and a 4 spd) and the other 1963 Falcon 2 door post (FE /4 speed as well) that was raced out of Fredericksburg VA in the late 60s. Both are in the "being worked on" stage, with the 56 nearing completion and the Falcon just getting started. I'm keeping the 56 in as raced condition (no roll bar or modern updates), so it won't be legal, but the Falcon, while being kept traditional in appearance and basic components, is getting some subtle updates so I can do some nostalgia drag racing with it (10 point roll bar, Speedway front axle, etc). And like most guys I know, most of my cars seem to be perpetual projects............. Thanks, Dave
Thanks guys. I will probably start a thread on the car in the coming weeks, once we really get rolling on it. I will try to post a photo or two on this thread shortly, though. Dave
Welcome from Hawaii! I dig that '56, did it run at Suffolk? Portsmouth used to be my ol stomping grounds.
Yeah, it ran under the 'Dixie Racing Team" banner (with the rebel flag painted on the door. Was sponsored by Bowditch Ford in Newport News, VA, was owned and driven by Dick Perdue of NN. He also raced it at VA Beach, time frame was around 1965-70. Would really like to find some pics of it racing in the day. I have a little more info posted in a request under the VA HAMBers group. Thanks, Dave
Welcome from Chesapeake!! I texted my buddy he has a bunch of old drag photos from the 60s and 70s. He used to be the starter at suffolk raceway. Maybe ha has what you are looking for.
Dave, Thanks. As you can see, I'm also partial to 1964 Fairlanes too. This is my latest. It was originally built by Junie Donlavey in 1968 and driven by Sonny Hutchins. Yours looks like a real good start for a T-Bolt conversion. Dave
Welcome from Fredericksburg. Some great projects you've got going on. Look forward to the progress pics and more of the history on the local cars.
I bought #90 from an attorney in Varina in Oct 2009. He used to represent Paul Sawyer and Richmond International Raceway before ISC bought it. The plan prior to that was that he and Paul Sawyer were going to build a museum at the track, which never materialized. This was one of the cars that was going into it. Dave
Figured I'd post a few pics of the suspenson of the Falcon. I think the rear will require minimal reengineering (probably add an upper crossmember for the shock mounts), but everything is coming out of the front (going back to the stock rear steer box and a Speedway 48" Dropped Axle (4"). Dave
