Anyone ever ship a Car into Canada? any Canadians on here bring a car up? I've got a situation. I saw an arizona 63 Bel Air wagon on Ebay a few weeks ago in upstate New Yawk (Rochester) for $3900 USD. It never made the reserve or sold. I e-mailed the guy asking for more pics, and when i looked over them the car looks to be really good so I made him an offer. He accepted the offer and even agreed to DRIVE the car to my house for $450. Now here's where it gets confusing/ problematic. He is a dealer and does not own the car. He will be crossing with his dealer plates. If he drives the car across the border and we do the deal here how can i register it in Canada? If it has an american ***le is it okay if I mail or fax a copy of the clear ***le and bill of sale along with a signed letter from the owner to US Customs to Export it? If he drives it here, sells it to me can I still register it as a 'salvage' vehicle or unfit? This ****s!!! First no hockey now this!! We are sister country's but you'd swear that the car was coming from the middle east with all this ******** they put you through!!
Oh, the reason i'm asking is because I called both customs offices and get the run around and different answers. When it comes to an old vehicle the also want it appraised... what should I do???
Drop Fireball500 a line, I know for sure he knows how because I sold him a car. I know he had to have the ***le on hand, to get it across the border, all the the other details, you'll have to ask him about. Good luck. Drew
tell customs you got it for parts for whatever amount you want to pay GST on and meet the guy at the border with a trailer and tow it home from there, then you can write your provincial mvb and ask how you go about registering a vehicle you bought with no ***le from some old guy up north who who lost the registration
but then i would HAVE to get it appraised no? I plan on eventually stripping it but I just want to drive it the rest of the summer.
I don't know how things work with you Liberals in the east but a bill of sale was all that was asked for at the border for BC & Montana and no appraisal was nessecary for a "parts cars", you sound like you want to drive it home so you might have to scrounge up some sort of ***le so you can insure/transfer it right away so I don't know whats involved with that
Well I'll just tell him to send the papers 72 hours in advance, and tell the border that he sold it for $1000. I think the car could p*** for a $1000 heap... I hope
Out here there is a auto exporting crew on the US side. You need to give them the paperwork on the car 3 days before you bring it across, so they can run a background check and make sure it isn't stolen etc. Then as you're bringing it across, you stop at the US side and finish up the paperwork, then proceed to the Canadian side. The US guys had more requirements than the Canadian side. The Canadian guys will need some of the paperwork from the US side. SO, I'd suggest you contact US customs at a major border crossing and tell them you're exporting a vehicle (relative to them). They should have some do***ents that outline what you'll need to do. If you meet all their criteria, you'll be all set for the Canadian side. And make sure you have a PROPER bill of sale, with the VIN etc on it. Mine caused me some grief. It's a painful system first time through. But to me it's better than trying your luck with the unchecked power of border gaurds. Good luck, TR
