I'm making a trip to Phoenix and back next week, and I would sure like to know where the good junkyards are. Either in the CA desert off Interstate 10, or in AZ off the 10 or in the Phoenix area. I remember there being one mentioned in a thread a while back about a good one outside of Blythe???
Oh, yeah-- I also would like to know of the whereabouts of any '57-64 fullsize Olds and Pontiac PARTS CARS in the same areas.
The one you are probably thinking of is in Salome. As you are coming East on I-10 look for the Salome Road exit and turn left. It is a few miles up but you won't miss it. Talk to Frank if you can, Doc is a pain in the *** most times. Beware the wiener dog!
Thanks, E.P.! That rings a bell. Any others? I'm guessing Hoctor's Hidden Valley and Desert Valley, but who else?
The place Elpolacko is talking about in Salome has a **** load of old tin. When we went to Hidden Valley there were no 20-40's cars but there were alot of 50-70's cars. If you go to Hidden Valley take beer and find the bowling ball. Nothing better than junkyard desert bowling>
If you happen upon any 56 98 coupes being parted, I am looking for bits. Hard to find half a world away.
Hidden Valley in Maricopa and Desert Valley in Phoenix and Casa Grande are the places to hit for sure. Also Steve Barchek at www.pontiacheaven.org has about 400 Pontiacs at his yard in Maricopa. I myself have a 57 Pontiac and 63 OLDS (which is for sale). Let me know what you are looking for, I have some odds n ends. C-ya
I was out in that area about 6 weeks ago before I came back to work here in Alaska, a friend of mine said that Hoctors had sold out to a big money guy who was going to put in the worlds largest dairy farm/feed lot out there and everything was going to the crusher and sold as s**** steel as the prices are out of sight now. Dont know how valid that is but it wouldnt surprise me, you ought see all the subdivisions and malls going in out there. Its a big city now!! Dave
It depends on what your looking for, if you can make it to Tucson theres a few. Cl***ic auto aka "no Jap Parts" 520-574-0308 has over 1000 cars (lots of 50s), its like heaven and they are great guys to deal with., Also This guy Milo has a few yards, one in Huachuca City with alot of 30s 40s and 50s cars, but he is hard to get a hold of, call first, its "fort Auto", Im still trying to get into that yard. Good hunting! If you made it out there, about 20 miles away in Whetstone/ Huachuca City is a fantastic yard (1000+ old cars), Ill post the number when I find my phone book, They are great folks there as well
I'm loading up my truck to head out there right now. I would sure like any contact info for yards that wasn't given here in this thread yet. Steve Barcek is the one I am going to go pick something up from. Funny, huh.
Not sure of the name of the place so I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but there is a boneyard south of Firebird Raceway outside of Phoenix that had some cool stuff in it the last time I was there. The owner actually cruzed us around the yard in the back of his pickup to give us an overview of the place.
It has been more years than I care to admit to, but Deitwilers was either in Rosamond or a little North of it. On the Esat side of Hwy 14. Back then that was Sierra Hwy. From the descriptions I've read here, it might be the place Windy Winfield bought around 6 years ago. If not I'll bet Gene knows where it is and has scored all the good stuff. But Deitwilers had cars from the '20s to the early '60s. I bet if I took an ice chest and an afternoon, I could find it, but I can't tell you where it is. Man, If I'd've known back in the seventies that I'd need those brain cells, I might not have spent them so freely.
Ive seen a ton of junkyards in phoeinx. I have never stopped because was there to race. But 35th ave and Broadway is the place to look around. Not sure if anything worth while to get but for sure a ton of junkyards around that area. Im sure guys here on the HAMB in the phoeinx area now the area.
Wife climbed White Mountain Saturday, 14,242 ft. (that's what she likes to do!) and on the way home on 395 saw a bunch of Model A's and a '59 Oldsmobile, with a for sale sign, on the side of the highway near Independence. She says it must have been a two door because if it was a 4 door she wouldn't have even noticed it....
desert valley on Happy valley sent all there pre 60s stuff to casa grande. Also they moved down a was on Happy valley because they sold the land for millions after wal-mart and circuit city moved next door. so I would try casa grande. Doent matter they are overpriced *****s anyway! I had not heard about Hidden Valley closing. That blows, it blows big time. Maricopa (city) sure as hell grew. Too many Valley names
Broadway is to far south. Between 19th ave and 35th ave on Lower Buckeye is junk yard row. There are very few yards that have older cars out that way. Boatdan or Boatwirght (its been so long now) used to have old iron, but he was such a ***** to deal with, and his prices were through the roof. There was a very small yard past speedworld (old PRP) that used to have hundreds of cars as well. I filled up my truck many o times with Challenger parts for just a few hundred each trip. Last I heard he sold all his **** for s****. He used to haul dead roadside cars for DPS. If memory serves me correct, his name was Reed. A very quiet standoffish dude. If he didn't know you, he wouldn't deal with you.
I was just out there, made the trip. Hidden Valley is not closed, but they just crushed a thousand cars I think he said. They are moving, I heard "toward San Diego". I bet they send a lot of stuff to the s****per rather than haul it though. A LOT.
