THere is a lot of good stories and as many bad ones about Pay-Pal. Are you selling to another Hamb member or a jerk on Craigslist that tells you he will only pay with Pay-Pal ? If its a buyer flat out telling you thats the only way they will pay, forget them, you are the seller and control how you want to get paid.

I feel better buying and paying with PP BUT hate selling using it..................if there is a dispute the buyer usually wins! I have won 5 legitimate claims as a buyer.

  5. I buy and sell on "that" auction site using PayPal ... I personally have never had an issue. Just bought something this morning.

Keep all your shipping paperwork, and I would suggest that you request someone sign for it when it arrives. Then you will have a "paper trail" of proof that you sent it and they got it. They have something like a month to dispute the transaction, so don't toss the paperwork when you hear it has arrived at its destination.

One other thing ... make sure you set up a PayPal account yourself ... do NOT follow links this person supplies you, it may look like PayPal but it might not actually be PayPal. Do not ship the item until it has been paid for. Do not trust an email stating that you have been paid ... go to your PayPal account and personally verify that a payment has been made to your account.

I've sold a fair amount of stuff to Australia and used PayPal every time. Poor guys get shafted on shipping costs, they must have a real love of the hobby.

Sounds like it's not his first rodeo, PayPal is great, sure there is a fee they charge, but you get used to it and the instant pay vs waiting for a Money Order or whatever is worth it.

I can't think of a better way to handle an overseas transaction. From personal data encryption to iden***y theft protection, Paypal is the easiest and safest for both sides.

  12. I only ever had one issue with it, otherwise, I actually prefer to pay with it, and the benefits outweigh the costs when getting paid with it...

PayPal always works for me. Make sure you open an account, so the money will go to it. It sounds like you don't have one.

Who is he and where is the shop????
Ive used paypal for years,as I buyer and seller-the only problem is the fees they take out!!
If he sends you $500-you will lose a % of it in fees, not sure how much it actually is though.
I just bought a 365 Cad motor from here and payed with paypal-no probs.
Hardest part is gettin it across that big lake!!!!

  15. Use common sense here ... if he claims (knowing you are new to PayPal) that he needs your p***word or banking info, it's a scam. If he is filling a shipping container then you won't be sending the item to his "verified address", you will be sending the part to someone here in the states that will fill the shipping container for him ... not sure that works in your favour if he is scamming. I'm thinking his claim (if he is scamming) would be that he did not get the item and he can prove you did not ship it to his address because the paperwork you supply PayPal (after shipping the item) will clearly show it going to an address in the states and not to Australia.

As I mentioned before, I have never had a problem (even sold some Camaro stuff to a guy in Turkey but shipped it to an address in Florida). You might be dealing with a legitimate buyer, you might be finding he's a scammer. If you have a lot to lose (financially ... is the item pricey?), DON'T sell to this guy and wait for a buyer in the states.

A coworker got screwed royally because she didn't ask one of us who uses Paypal how to set up a Paypal account. She got a bogus link and lost a fairly high dollar item and the money that she should have got. She did have the item for sale on craigslist and the alleged buyer was from the bay area.

I've sold probably a hundred items that I was paid via Paypal and never had a problem. One thing though is that I never misrepresent what i am selling.

But as borntolooze said, create a paper trail on the shipment. Tracking number and signature rrequired on delivery.

I'd also take dated photos of the item from all angles and take photos of how you packaged it. Don't skimp on the packaging or packing inside. Those Styrofoam pellets don't weigh squat and really protect what they are stuffed around.

  18. One last thought ... I know for a fact that Kijiji states something along the lines of "to avoid the possibility of fraud buyer and seller should do transaction in person". I wouldn't doubt Craigslist has the same warning.

I am pretty sure that if someone in Australia wants your item, there must be someone in the states looking for the same part.

If it is an expensive part, and you stand to lose a lot if it is a scam ... I'd be looking for a buyer here. As mentioned I did sell an item to Turkey and I did ship said item to Florida with no problems ... maybe I got lucky :)

I had had several transactions thru "that auction site" using paypal to Canada, Germany, Italy, Australia, Thailand, and Brazil....so far so good!

  23. Sorry to say ... this is starting to sound "scammish". Why the hell would he pay you extra for anything? You have to ship it anyways, he is going to pay the shipping (right?) so this concerns me.

Another poster had an absolutely brilliant idea ... find a hamber in his area in Australia that can verify this "shop" he claims to have snd possibly verify that the owner of the shop actually did buy from you.

There ain't no good reason to pay you extra ... I am now officially su****ious.

If it was me ... I'd walk away .... just saying.

Well, generally it's safe for items on eBay, BUT they have f*cked up on more than one occasion...

A few months ago, I had a customer that I spoke to over the phone who wanted a few parts shipped out. I've seem him in person at drift events, and we had common acquaintances. He lives in NY, and I'm in QC, Canada.
I sent him a Paypal invoice for the items in question, he paid for them and I had a buddy who was going to be in the area meet up with him in person (I didn't charge any shipping to the customer so he got free shipping). Case closed, right?

    No.
A week later, I get an email from Paypal about "su****ious activity" , stating the buyer needed to respond by a specific date and confirm that they indeed paid for and received the item. The buyer never responded, and $400 dollars were refunded to the customer - Who now had the parts AND the money.

I couldn't prove the items shipped out, but I would figure since the customer never responded it would mean it's legit and not the other way around... Usually people complain when stuff is stolen from them.

Now, normally I'd freak, but as I said I sort of knew the guy.... Well, it still took 2-3 more months and a lot of calls/emails before I got paid.

    Paypal ****s.

lenco is feeling my pain too. paypal ****s

  27. I mentioned that I bought an item of eBay today. The seller would only ship to a "verified address". Because I am a registered eBay user, I have an address that has been "verified good" to ship to. Basically, if I were to buy your item, I would have you ship it to my verified address. In the event of a dispute, you would be able to show paper work that states you sent the item to me (delivery confirmation and a signature really help too).

It is sounding to me like this guy is going to claim he never got your item and you won't have a shred of paperwork showing that you sent it to his address in Australia (because it went to some "corner of a tow yard").

He will claim he didn't get it ... PayPal will ask for shipping verification (which you won't have) ... PayPal will then refund his money. End result you lose the part and the money you got.

I have done this type of transaction and not had any problems (as mentioned before) but NOBODY has ever offered to pay me extra for anything ... why would they? He wants your part and is sweetening the deal to ****er you in.

I do not like it .....

Put it on eBay (with a decent reserve you can live with) and let people fight over it and boost the price (and you get buyer/seller protection there too).

  28. When dealing face to face ... cash is where its at. When dealing with PayPal (and eBay) the item MUST be shipped so there is a paper trail.

When I have listed hot rod and vintage midget race car stuff, some of my best sales were to customers in New Zealand and Australia using 100% PayPal. They have been great, enthusiastic and in several cases, repeat buyers.
