I have a cragar valve cover for a banger OHV conversion. Real nice shape considering the age. There are two guys around my area that want this particular part, just wondering what it may be worth? I really have NO idea what it's worth but I havent seen too many of these around.

  2. Sounds like a fairley rare part for a specific modification. It is probably worth whatever you want to ask for it.

I see common '70s rocker covers going for a buck and a quarter to a buck fifty any more of that gives you any idea where to start.

Hit e-bay for a couple of weeks if you have it and see if anything surfaces. Do a search and dig through the classifieds as well. The Secrets of Speed society could probably be of some help as well. The slightly more evil way would be to get them together and ask for offers... You would know real quick what it's worth to the purchaser. I wouldn't suggest the latter if these are friends of yours!

I've done as much research as I can. I guess thats why I posted here. I'm stumped. There is a nice write-up about the history of Cragar, as well as a few people reproducing parts. There just isnt anything about these valve covers that I can find. I found repop's in the 250 range.

  9. Double it, the real deal is worth at least twice as much as a copy.

What conversion is that cover for? It doesn't look like any of the regular/popular ones I remember (Rajo, Fronty etc). Are you sure it's for a conversion and not a domestic 4 cylinder, early import or obscure V8?

Go on Crager site and go into companies history.Crager used to make a 4 cylinder head way back. So with that in mind I would say your valve cover has to be rare. That said 700 does not sound to far fetched

When was the last time you saw one? I thought $700 was a reasonable price.

Yes I'm aware of the history of these valve covers and heads. Pretty neat write up, neither one of the guys that wanted this valve cover have a banger. I believe they want to resell it, but they are lowballing me. Maybe I'll put it on the classified's on here since all the PM's I got.

    Also list it on "Fordbarn.com"....

  17. I'm guessing it'd be worth about $2500 for it, if you had a good cylinder head, good rockers and valves under it (for that total price). Without those I think it might fetch between $50 and $75 bucks, if it's not a "repop" (I don't see any of those little vents on the top of the ones in your photo). I know a guy that has a pretty long shelf of full setups and they're not flying off that shelf. But, hey! Get whatever the market will bare.

I do believe it's worth a bit more than 50-75$'s considering what a reproduction costs. But it really dont matter to me if I sell it or not, I think its cool to just have a piece of speed parts history this old.

Bump anyone have anymore info on this valve cover?

  20. Wow, what a cool piece, be fair, but no pants around the knees! It is awesome, should be used and will be appreciated by all that see it. ~sololobo~

  21. I've found for the most part repo parts cost the same or slightly above orginial parts unless the orginial part is NOS. If this is orginial and your interested in doing some trading add me to the list.

I'm running an original Cragar head on my A. It has a repop valve cover that doesn't seem to seal very well, perhaps it originannly belonged on my motor? In that case you should probably just return it to me.

I paid $100 for a Roy Creel reproduction CRAGAR valve a couple of years ago. My original CRAGAR valve cover had the fins and CRAGAR logo removed and the whole thing was polished. The repro does not have the slots cut for blowby, so I got a Moon breather for it. After I bought the repro, I decided that I really liked the original (1935) polished valve cover better.

You could hold out for $700, but that could take some time. Now if you could find a head to go with it, you would be able to sell it for quite a bit more.

Also if you build and engine and car with it the fun quotient comes in, and then the mathematical equation becomes more of an ethical equation in which fun becomes the major value, as in, how much fun would it be to drive a prewar style roadster with a ohv banger?
