I have this 4 71 (?) blower but I am confused as to exactly what it is. It has the 4 mounting holes like a 4 71........but the center case (without end plates) measures 11"......from what I have read 4 71's are 10". Plus, it has the long intake like a 6 71, with the 6 bolt holes on top for attaching the carb plate. The pics I have seen of 4 71's appear shorter, with 4 mounting holes on top. It was free, so I will try to use it if at all possible. I want to rebuild it, but need to know what I am buying parts for.....it spins smooth and is in good shape overall. I just seems bigger than a 4 71! Any info is appreciated.
No, the 53s don't have the flange at the bottom. I'm guessing it's some other brand of industrial blower.
Like Squirrel said, it's not a 71 series GMC. And if the case is iron, it's certainly an industrial compressor pump.
Well, leave it to me to end up with an oddball.......anyway, it is iron, and heavy as hell. The end plates/drive gears/bearings are all the same as what I have seen being sold from various venders for a GMC. It just seems to be a funny length. If I can use it I will, but I won't if it ends up being too much of a pita. Thanks for the replies.
Could be a Roots for an industrial (ventilation) application, not Roots for a GMC. Check out this Hamb story. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=471060 Tom S.
