Here are some pics of the old 33 ford pickup I found in a local guy's basement. Has been a rod since 1957. Posted info on an earlier post. Got ahold of the original builder, 80yrs+ old, he was tickled to her it was still around and as he left it, and even more please I was going to just leave it alone and drive it. Come to find out after talking to him for a while that the truck came from about a 1/4 mile from where I currently live, came off my neighbors farm in 1956. WOW!! If that wasn't enought the old guy asked my name, I told him, and it rang some bells, well turns out he dated my grandmother for a short time way back when! Too cool. I can't really afford to build the truck right now, we have a baby due soon, and my 56 panel is nerly done, so hopefully if I can afford to keep it, I'll get it going in a couple yrs. For now it is safely stored in my dad's barn. Later, Traler-Ed (Rusty)
Got one like (34) sat for 25 years. Its got a 59ab in it. Spent no money just cleaned and replaced a few things started right up and ran great. I'll bet yours would run!
If you are just going to store it till you have time and money do your self a favor and take a bug sprayer full of oil and coat the whole car under carage and inside the doors to help prevent any more decay.
That's real cool you know the history of the truck. Better yet that you talked to the original builder. Hopefully he had some good stories about adventures he's had with it. I know the history of my A coupe back to '58 and the stories the guy told of what him and his brothers did in it back then are just as cool as the pictures I have of it. If the old guy has pictures, be sure to ask if you can have copies made of them. And if you can take picture of him with it now do it.
Knowing the history of you truck makes it worth that much more........to you! Fire that thing up and take the old bird for a ride before it's too late.....just get it to where it'll limp.....you don't have to take it out on the highways.... EDIt: heck, that things looks pretty good (I know pics are hard to tell) fire her up! (don't you hate it when everyone tells you HOW to do something )
I hope last week I did not pressure you into getting that. I could tell you really wanted so I did not push the issue. We will have to line them up at some HAmb Drags one year. Really pushing hard to get mine done for this years drags. Reserved mine and my pops room yesterday. Congrats that truck is way cool. Hope Momma aint mad she sure did not want to have to get extra job.
No need too Slag. The old truck is coated with a nice layer of Hot Dog Grease. I do remember when this old truck hauled Hot Dogs back in the day at the Capital Speedway. Nice find Rusty.........now what are you going to name it? How about...."The Frankfuter Express" And did you know: July is National Hot Dog Month An average American eats 60 Hot Dogs a Year Johann Georghehner from Germany created the first Frankfuter in 1600's ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "nobody puts Ketchup on a Hot Dog" (Clint Eastwood) opossum benders central mo chapter
None for me thanks. They make me violently ill. Grats on the truck AND the baby Rusty!! Keep the truck, when stuff calms down a lil bit after the kid's here, fix it and drive it.
