I should point out that I grew up in Lancaster...

I just wouldn't pay $30 for the right to stand there for a day. :)

First off I am glad to say I have NEVER been to a goodguys event!

Now I have heard these complaints numerous times. And like anything else you have to take it with a grain of salt unless you were there, because stories change so much. One of the problems is things are so inconsistant. I mean other events charge the same amount wether you sell new or used. And as far as I'm concerned, if I had a new set of valve covers and didnt use them and decided to sell them, they r used, period. There isnt an idiot in the world who would give some one exactly the same amount he paid for an item new. No warranty or anything, I would just walk over to the new vendor and buy the item there. Than I can take it back. Even if I saved $5, I wouldnt buy the used one. So for goodguys to worry about that guys selling a few things he didnt use is ridiculous!

Now I would think that Goodguys is not really the one complaining, its more then likely the new vendors saying hey there selling what we sell. Yes, most of us would say oh well to the new parts vendor, but GG is making good money on them, mainly becasue they charge them more, so that has opened the door for complaints.

But you know **** happens everywhere! Do you guys remember when there was only like one huge car show a year and everything else was just get togethers by clubs??? Well I do. But what happened, cities started saying no more cruzin in our town yata yata yata and low and behold now we cant do anything unless someone is making a buck. So now we have all these shows every weekend there a show somewhere, heck I have seen 4 or 5 different shows goinf on at the same time, but the people setting these up dont care, there making money.

If you wanna do something, support all the little cruzin's that little places put on in your own town.

The fact is if people keep going to these big shows they'll keep having them.

I was at Pomona swap meet just this last time and was telling a guy I know that sells there too, that they have made so many rules that we (the vendors) are gonna stop coming, it isnt fun anymore! Well the funny part is I'm saying this while walking back to his space to look at some used alt brackets I needed and when we get there security is trying to get there info on there space because his wife handed a little girl of a friend of THEIRS a cookie!!! Can you believe it? Thats ridiculous. So if I go I need to bring my son's birth certificate to prove he's mine so I can feed him! give me a F$%^ing break! That is pothetic. So two security guards ask him for his drivers license and take down his info. For a cookie! But then I'm leaving and some idiot is going out the exit lane driving like an idiot because he couldnt wait his turn like everyone else and where is security???? Probably writing someone up for not locking the door on the porta john or something.............

Gee, at the very least I thought you guys would have gotten a kick out of the cookie story.......

  5. ALWAYS get peoples names. When things even look like they might turn ****ty, get the guys's name , hopefully you can write it down right in front of him, it makes them nervous

I get a kick out of these types of posts. I agree, unfair or poor treatment by any orginazation is not good practice and should be corrected, but as far as ******* and moaning about price...who really cares. Its a free counry, and shows can charge what they want. Car shows are a business, and everyone needs to make money. If the cost is too much to get into a show, I don't go. If you look at the entertainment value you get at these large shows, and weigh it against what you spent to get in, I bet the price isn't bad. Try going skiing for 4 hours, or goto a nhra event, nascar race, etc. I think most GG fees are reasonable.
People that have never put on a show will never understand how much $$ it takes to put them on.

Here's a new topic for *****ing....GoodGuys don't come to New England. I know we are a bunch of cheap *****s, but jeez, even NSRA goes up to Burlington, and the Right Coast does a show in Springfield, MA.

I always wonder what someone's thought process when a post suddenly pops back to the top after a two month hiatus. It's not so much that there is a reply, it's just that the reply itself usually comes off like the rest of the post happened five minutes ago. Odd.

Fritz, the Rhinebeck show is May 7-8th and it's NOT a Goodguys show. It's run by the Hudson Valley Antique Auto Club.

    Goodguys Rhinebeck is in Sept.

My apologies to the rest of you HAMBER's who have to put up with this thread.

I have been saying this for years. I am not too positively popular around these parts because of my position/politics related to Guy guys and other large organized events. Sounds like it was more expensive than E-gay's seller's cut. Sorry for your bad luck, but I will continue to boycott those A-holes.

Same here, I avoid these threads when the actually concern gets overwhelmed by griping... than I read about ketchup and whether it should be used on hash browns and then catsup VS ketchup and I was just not able to stop! ;)

We have been done with goodguys for several years.
The last time goodguys vintage drags were in seattle we pre paid for three people for the whole weekend. It rained the entire time and not a single p*** was made by anyone but no refunds.
Fast forward to 2008 we showed up at goodguys spokane with five cars and just wanted to attend for saturday only since we had raced on friday and had other plans for sunday. We registered and then were told we had to pay the same price for one day as a three day p*** cost. We left and went on a nice cruise and have not been back since and don't intend on ever attending one of their events again.

  20. We really, really, REALLY need to have old threads set to autolock after a set period, 12 months or so, maybe exempt threads with a Tech tag on them.

Agreed. Why some people feel they need to drag up a 6 year-old thread to renew a ***** about an organization is beyond me...

A 'thread lock' would solve this problem.
