I know I am a diehard Chevy lover and no I have not gone over to the dark side. Two of my best friends Ron Podsiadly from San Diego and Rick Miller here in Rochester have always made me appreciate a good Mopar. Hell, back in the 80's I started building a 34 Dodge kingcab pickup. Ron liked the cab design so much he traded me a 37 Chevy coupe and then went on to turn the cab into a 1 ton car hauler that he used when he and his family moved west. Back in the 70's Rick had been the go to guy and the one who was always there to help everyone else out. My kids and now my grand kids call him "Uncle Rick". We still tease him about taking 17 years to build a 29 Dodge Sedan. The 29 is ready for some upgrades but Rick has not stopped driving it since he put it on the road. Several years ago Rick came to me with a 33 Plymouth (or should I say parts of a 33 Plymouth) that he aquired and thought might make a nice rod some day. Little by little he got more parts (not easy to find 33 Plymouth sheetmetal) and we started making the piles of metal take shape. He did find a complete frame. Thank God because I only saw about two remaining body mount holes in the body and fortunately the frame gave us the all important push and correct dimensions to get this body back into one piece and mount it on the frame. Here are a few pictures to share. We have had a some people tell us we are nuts, but I have seen worse projects turn into some amazing rides. I guess you just got to have some vision and if you like the way it turns out then that is all that matters.
Pretty ambitious project - Go For It!! Looks like you have a good start. I remember a 34 with an OLds engine running around Lawton, OK back in the early 60's .... had a chance to buy it but my dad nixed the deal. Always wondered what happened to it. The Chickasha Pre War swap meet is a good place to find early parts, but you are much closer to Hershey or Carlisle. Keep posting pictures.
WOW Ray the car really is starting to come together, its good to see pictures of it again. wish I could be helping on it with you guys Keep taking pics of the progress. Ron...
Pretty cool man. I have a 33 pickup as well. Parts are scarce. Riley productions makes a few hard to fab items like lower cowl patches. Good luck.
Ray May, Last week I purchased a project car " '33 Dodge coupe"It looks as thou what you're doing to yours is exactly what I have to do . The front end will be a straight axle ( came with the project )I'm missing a lot of parts i.e. rear fenders, running boards, gas tank, door hinges, plus the latches and handles. Do you have anything extra ? I too have been a Chevy and Early Ford fan - its time to do a Mopar. The rear deck has been used for target practice. ( I'm wondering if anybody re-manu. sheet metal?) Any help would be appreciated. Rayzor
Of all the cars I've owned and sold a 33 Plymouth PD coupe is the one I miss the most. Sold it about 25 years ago. A lot of parts for the build came from a company called PLYDO. Don't think they are in business anymore. Gary
rlhinit, the actual owner of this car is my friend Rick. We have been working on the 33 project together and have posted some build pictures and information on another HAMB thread. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/uncle-ricks-33-plymouth-project.680682/ I do know he had sold some of the kind of parts you asked about. Rick is also a HAMB member (notaford1) so you can send him a PM and I am sure he can share more information on the build and how he searched for his parts.
