My nephew is 11 years old. He's my sister's 3rd kid and the only one that seems to have taken an interest in old cars. He likes coming over and helping me out some time. I'm changing out the original 3 speed in my '57 Chevy for a factory 3 speed with overdrive so he helped me change it. Thought maybe someone might like this picture:

I think it's great when you can get a young kid into our hobby. Both for them and us.

That's the truth. The knowledge and wisdom of age, mixed with the energy and enthusiasm of youth...seasoned with mutual respect...is a powerful and fulfilling recipe.

    Damn, I'm poetic tonight...lol.

The best to both of you.

Did you get that out of a book. If not you need to write one. That was really good.

i spent a lot of time with my cousins from the time I was 13 until I was 15 pulling and replacing motors and transmissions. my favorite swap was the 427 big block into his '66 chevy pickup. we drove that thing around the block with the hood off and unhooked exhaust and pissed all of the neighbors off when we took it for a test run. it was hooked up to the old granny low 4 speed trans. Good times and memories.

Be sure to get a picture of him when he's really dirty. He will always cherish that.

The rest of his life he will remember his "Cool Uncle and his hot rods." Good job. From the time my Sons were old enough to help in the garage they were right there with me. They had their first car projects when they were 13 or 14 and I never had a moment's worry about them getting into trouble or drugs. I knew where their money and time were spent.

Getting them involved in building stuff is the best thing we can do for a kid.

Great shot of the lad, good to see his hands on something other than a video game! Way to go brother, as mentioned, this will be a memory of a cool friend forever. ~sololobo~

Good Job,if more Uncles and Dads would take time to do this the world would be a better place !

  20. I'm in the same boat. My nephew James is 5 and is a car nut.

My son A.J. is only 3 so it remains to be seen what his interest's will be. So far he seems to like cars but he is also showing some interest in, ahem... "sports".

Great for you to take an interest in the little guy. Cl***ic photo for sure...

Dad had me helping him on an old Packard when I was 5...Mom said I drank a bottle of gasoline that Dad had to prime the carb with,,,Had to have my stomach pumped at the hospital...That's some serious intrest in cars...LOL....KUDOS to you for taking time to teach a young person about turning wrench...

  23. Get him to degrease that diff for you. His little fingers will be able to get into all those tight spots. ;)

Looks like a good candidate for a project of his own pretty soon. SOmething simple like a sweet little V8-60 Powered T bucket or a 47 2nd-55 1st Chevy pickup with a dual or triple carb 250 L-6.
I love to see young kids getting greasy and I know they are not just enjoying themselves but learning something that will last a lifetime.

Nothing like an extra set of hands anytime! And pay attention to their opinions,,never know what words of wisdom comes from the mouths of babes.. Was pulling engine once and it was getting hung up,,,boy says "are all the bolts removed" What ya think i'm stupid,,YEP! had left one bolt in when we went in for lunch..My boy still lending a hand 20 years later,,now he's a boilermaker.

My nephew is 11 too. I started taking him to the shop and got him a small pedal car to work on for a customer of the shop after his dad past last year. He seems to enjoy hanging out at the shop and he sure gets in the zone for about an hour or so at least. Nice to see your nephew getting into it.
