I would have saved that technique for something will much worse paint.

 

I think it looks good, either way. That orangepeely look didn't do that sweet longroof any favours. Rock the look and when it stops chargin' your battery scuff and shoot.

Remember that the only opinion that matters is the *ss in the driver's seat.

Thanks for taking the time to share a technique on here, takes minutes to read but hours to put together.

Oh, and I WOULD drive the wheels off that if it were in my barn. Nice.

i am not disrespecting you or your car just going to give my opinion.first i love the car. i have a spot for old wagons and yours fills the bill.and i like my cars shiney, but all one color. i dont like the burn thru that is now prevalent on the car.it looks like a chased after effect.doesnt look like time did it it looks like a buffer did it.i really liked it better before.either way, id would have to paint it.i know you put alot of work in it and for that you should be commended, i just dont like the final result.but thats just me.its yours and you should do it to suit you not any of us.anyway you do it ill have your back.i just dont have to like it.lol. and i dont think it looks like a ratrod, just a old car that could use some paint.

I like what you've done though i wouldn't do it myself. Very cool car, great stance. Cover it in beige primer and give it me!

 

not sure why someone would want to rub through the paint like that.

 

I used to pay a guy a lot of money to not do that! But good for you for sticking to what you like.

 

Did something similar to a 1955 Pontiac In my early years. Two tone cream and coral oxidized badly. Hit it with a slurry of Comet and water. Then some wax. Looked brand new with no rub through.

 

Me thinks we are seeing the creation of a "new" trend in hot rod paint...

Thanks all for the replies no matter your personal feelings on the subject. I realy love the way it looks and knew the outcome would be something like what I got. I make no bones about her not being a creampuff from the onset and there is still a TON of work to get her a little more solid. I don't know that this wagon is worth the money to do a total resto job on it so she's most likeley going to stay this way as long as I own it.

I think it looks awesome. Gives it a real cool look until you save up, and can spend 100grand on a flawless restoration... Like everyone else on here with negitave coments and no imagination.

 

You don't have to go insulting people because we don't agree with burning through paint. I'd rather have no imagination and spend $30 on some Rustoleum pints of paint, cheap thinner, and spray the car all one shiny color.

I dont see how this is fake patina? This is something else. Its an aggressive buffing process. fake patina would be an oxidation process like acid washing jeans.

 

I am a big fan of wagons and Mopars... This one is just awsome. I love what youve done so far. Great stance. I say make it safe and reliable and drive the wheels off of it. Great Car and good job!!!

Never understood the fake patina, I think it looked better before you started. There was enough paint on the car to clean up and have a good looking car and now it looks like it needs painted...

 

Guess you need some of that wax that comes in color.
