Nice ***us!!! Here's what my tach looks like that I'm trying to get some ones to go along with. I think I want two temps, one oil and perhaps one amp or fuel pressure if I can afford them. I guess I'm gonna have to keep my eye open for the deals...

I also have a set like this (minus the panel) for my '32. They came with my '33 and I think there's about 8-10 gauges in the box that I might use stretched across the dash.

You've got some really cool stuff up there!

There are a lot of people on here that know a lot of the subject, but that's a moot point unless you or your buddy are willing to step up to the plate and actually put something down on paper,..website, whatever...

Thanks HellsHotRods for mentioning my father. He is a wealth of information on SW gauges. I call him the "Gauge King". He has been sniffing out gauges longer than most. He may not have as many as some but he knows what he is talking about. I will speak to him about throwing out info on SW gauges in a thread. He lurks here and watches my build thread but keeps a low profile. This would be a very good post to start here on the HAMB. Let's see were this goes.--curbspeed

I think i basically put them in order, there is so much to learn and know about them that it never ends, i never cared the most about gauges till a couple of years ago now i collect them up when ever i see them, you can buy them for a few bucks here and there and find some good ones once in a while for a good deal. i like it because if you hunt long enough you can still find good deals on them, if your looking and need one it can get to be a different story, i think the most ive ever paid for a indavidual gauge was about $100 and it was either my greenline 160 speedo (numbers on the outside) or my wings speedo.

Ive boughten bare panels as little as $50 and up to $200

ive spent as little as $50 for a loaded panel and the most i paid was $500 for the hollywood filled with the large logo curved gl*** gauges which was still a good deal.

The gauge market has gone crazy in the last 10 years or so. Some stuff is untouchable at major swapmeets. If you keep a sharp eye out you can get some good deals. I remember not having too much diffuclty finding SW straight 5 panels in the past. Try to fnd one now for 25 bucks and see how that works out. I never see winged gauges any more. And if you do they are really high priced. They are my favorite over the earlier style. With the popularity of traditional hotrods every jabokie and his brother are buying up even the roughest examples of SW gauges. I guess if it was easy everyone would be doing it.

They've become "collectable" like a lot of other early Hot Rod parts. The more guys that start collecting them, the higher the price goes.
Like Flathead heads, hanging on garage walls; for every set of vintage gauges installed in a running Hot Rod, there's several sets on display in someones display case. The guy "truly needing" a missing gauge to have a complete set for his traditional project car has to compete with everyone else (the "collectors") so he can get his car on the road. In many ways it's tougher to build a traditional rod than it used to be.

I've been holding onto this clock. Can't seem to find out what it's from. Never seen another. Winds up and runs for a couple of days keeps great time. Any help?
    thanks, Mark

I'm looking for an oil pressure and amp gauges - period correct, for a just aquired '57 Chevy. Could someone post a couple pics so I know what I'm looking for at the BIG-3 swap in a couple weeks?

    MUCHO Thanks, Tim

Guys, this thread is just starting (and taking off rather quickly). I think if JJ is serious we could put together something pretty cool in a few weeks, so stay tuned and keep plugging in what you have and what you know!

Your clock is probably an "add-on" option and not original equipment. I can't guarantee, but I'd say early teens to early 20's.

Look up the "big logo" gauge pics from ***us' posts above. Those are circa 1955 to 1957 or 8. If you are going for a date later than 1958, use the small logo standard or deluxe gauges he pictures.

Anywhere from the 1940's through the early 60's. The 50-60's use was probably only industrial though, as hot rodders were interested in style by then and would have been buying the Deluxe series gauges.

It's nice to find an 8000 in that style. Most of that style was lower RPM.

Some of the old SW gauges are just so cool, I don't know why the manu. today don't duplicate the style. I like the big gauges with very fine white dials on black background and the SW script in cursive.

Your 5" Tach is NICE... but not to offend, I wonder if you are aware that what you own is a "re-screened face with a '36 Ford needle that has been painted white"
SW never made a 5" tach with that needle, I have both original versions in my possession. Why was this done? Because people think the needle looks cool to match the needle on the 2 5/8's gauges. I've seen a few re-done like this. Personally, I think a gauge is only original once, and I'm not into re-screen jobs, some are obvious.

Thanks, alchemy! The car is a Black Widow tribute, want to keep it looking within its period. Has a new column-mounted MOON tach, want to swap it out for a late-50's SUN. Can anyone provide a pic here?

    Thanks, Tim
