Edmonds Lincoln Intake???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Rocket's Hot Rod Garage, Feb 8, 2012.

  1. So a friend of mine calls and says he got this duel quad intake that he got for free out of a barn someone he knew was tearing down. He didn't know what it was so I told him to bring it over. At first we thought it was an olds intake but....no. So I started doing a little resurch and figured it's most likely a Y-block Lincoln Intake like a 317. It's a duel 2 barrel with carters on it. I've only seen the duel quads. I know Lincoln speed parts are fairly rare so we're just hoping to gather more information about it and see how rare. The numbers on the bottom read # LIN 52.

  2. I would love to have that! I mean it's OK I guess, I would give a couple bucks for it.
PM me with a price if you decide to sell.

Yep Edmunds made both 2x2 and 2x4 for the 317, 341, and 368 Lincoln Y motors.
Edmunds made valve covers for those motors also.
I have the 2x4 and valve covers;), I would also be interested in the 2x2 if you want to sell it!
The Fenton 2x4 is a lot less common, the Edmunds intakes pop up on epay every other month or so.

You didn't know? You've never heard of Synchronizing the carburetors? It's like a swordfight in the movies... synchronize the moves so that Errol Flynn was not injured. :)

  6. This has got me thinking about putting a Lincoln Y-block in my unibody now sense I seem to have a few cool parts. So are they as rare as I think? What would it be worth? Any production numbers or old ads? Dose any one else on here have one?

  7. If you want your Uni to Run stick with the Ford Y-Block. Trust me I know. The Lincoln looks cool though and would be good in an open cowled car, such as my Model A. ;)

The Ford can be made to make much more HP.

Might as well turn this into a Lincoln speed equipment thread since there hasn't been one in a while.

You can see I'm missing an intake in my equation;)

As for value, they are not super common but they aren't all that in demand either.
Edmunds for Hemi or Cadillac will always sell for more.
Lincoln stuff is priced right in there with Ford Y-block and Olds. I actually paid more for the Crager adapter than any of the other parts.

Marcy, Thanks for the Edmunds pics. The intake and the valve covers appear to be very early pieces. The cursive "Edmunds" script on the covers, I think is earlier than the Olds valve cover block letters that say "Edmunds Custom". That style of intake runners with open webs also matches the very early Olds Edmunds, whereas the later Olds Edmunds intake has closed webs with the later "Edmunds Custom" block letters.

  13. Marcy, cool stuff you got there. I guess if it's not worth much it'd be better to just hang onto the intake. I plan on cleaning it all up and re-building the carbs for him & it'll probably just sit on the shelf in the shop for awhile. He said there is more stuff in the barn so i'm hoping he scores a set of the valve covers also.

Are the 2x2 more rare than the 2x4? I haven't been able to find any pictures of another one? Dose anyone have one or anything cooler? I'd love to see some more neat Lincoln stuff. I'm into the Y-block Fords & have quite a bit of stuff for them but not much for the Lincolns except some Ram Horns & now this intake of my friends.

When the OHV Lincoln engine debuted in 1952, they all had 2 bbl carbs. In '53, they got 4 bbls, and Edmunds brought out a dual quad intake to use a pair of them, so I doubt that many of the 2 2 bbl intakes were cast. I used to have an Edmunds dual quad intake for them, and it had "53LINC" cast on the underside. That machined boss on the p***enger side rear of your intake is for the remote automatic choke mechanism that the factory 2 bbl teapot carb used.

Let me now if you decide to cut loose of those Lincoln valve covers.

  16. Wow. That makes a ton of sense. So that dose mean that they are more rare (1 year only) but not necessarily desirable. This is cool stuff though and I appreciate the info. I think it's cooler looking than the 2x4 but that don't mean it performs I guess.

    Thanks, again.

Here's the Edmunds section of the 1955 Newhouse Speed Catalog
Both intakes were available---$80.20 for the dual and $85.60 for the dual quad;)

As HEATHEN said, mine has the Lin 53 stamped on the bottom and came with 2 Holley flaming teapots on it.

  19. Marcy, how about you sell me the valve covers & adapter I need for the intake? I probably couldn't afford it though.

The adapters will work with any of the Lincoln y-block motors, 317, 341 or 368 (1954, 55, 56)

My old Lincoln 2-4 intake. I sold it. I found a better deal on an FE before I could find a descent Lincoln/truck engine.

  23. Fenton also made a 2X2 for the 317-341 and also have 53-54LINC stamped on the underside.

That would have been an Edmunds design, recasted with the Fenton logo on it. Fenton bought out Edmunds in 1955.
