I just put a 92 350 truck engine in my 71 C-10 and when I put the original points distributor in it comes about 1/8 inch from seating on the intake(edelbrock performer).Anyone else ever run into the problem?
    Thanks jim

i wonder if theres differents in the oil pump rods. You did do a side by side comparison with the dist. even the oil pump slot.

maybe the oil rod didn't push/snap all the way in? Look down the hole, get something to apply a little presure?? Try another dist. 1/8", maybe modify an old core dist. Thicker gasket???? . . . . I'm bainstorming here, Homie.

  9. I just did kind of the opposite thing.
86 and earlier block with TPI manifold and distributor. Went together no problem, but if it is the oil pump shaft length it would have been short on the one I did.

There was something about the drive gears too. I didn't have to worry about it but if it was a older dizzy in a newer block (like you are doing) the drive gear needs changed.

Well, a 71c10, you have the space to pull the pan

Is the gear installed upside down?

  12. There's also some variation on the gear's teeth indexing to the roll pin and rotor drive. It's easy to flip it around and it puts the gear 180* off. Should all still work but the dizzy looks off.

I got it,,,As Mataconcepts suggested,,,I went out and spun it again and after about a turn and a half it dropped in... I still cant figure what the heck was holding it,I never seen one come inside of an 1/8 and not fall in,,,,any way...... Again thanks very much for the suggestions Jim

Seen this once and if you did take the gear off DONT crank the motor or you risk breaking off a piece of the gear.

the 92 pump rod has that plastic coupler at the pump instead of the earlier metal collar. It snaps in place, so maybe you pulled it loose pulling the other dissy.
