My 32 keeps pulling to the left. Its got an i beam with an after market disk kit with gm metric calipers. I just replaced the calipers thinking i had a funky one and they are cheap so other than painting them to match the car no biggie. It still pulls. The only other thing ive changed since the car was built a year ago was going to ceramic pads to keep the brake dust down. Im going to pull the right caliper tomorrow and get it as low as I can get it below the master cylinder which is mounted under the floor and put a 1 inch block in the caliper and bleed it again. It sure acts like air in the right side but ill be damed if i can see any when i bleed it. The other option is back to semi metallic pads again and deal with the dust. Last year it acted like it had a little pull to the right but after the ceramic pads everything seemed to go to ****. Any help or ideas would be great. Dave
Something to check that I have run into before is a brake hose failing internally. It will hold pressure on one caliper and cause both uneven pad wear side to side but also cause the pull, especially in a quick stop. If all was well and this problem developed over time it could be worth the few bucks to change the hoses to see. Good Luck, Steve
I ***ume you mean the it pulls when braking but otherwise is fine. Just so we are clear, this is not an alignment problem but a braking problem. I have had Performance Friction Carbon Metalic pads do this to me several times. Usually requires turning the rotors and a new set of pads but this is a problem that develops with time. So has it always pulled to the left? If so you may have a mismatched pair of calipers. Check the bore/piston size on them with a dial caliper and make sure they are the same. Other culprits can be a binding caliper bracket, in your case the right side is the one to suspect. Other oddities can include a mismatched pair of rotors, fin count or metal composition can contribute. Right down to surface preparation or rust pitting can do strange things on a lightweight car.
My experiance has been a rubber flex line from the frame to the wheel was colapsed inside and the outside still loked good. John
Unless you are talking about a decomposed rubber line that SWELLS when the brakes are applied, an internally collapsed line would cause more of a drag when the brakes are not applied than a pull when the are applied because of the restriction. 500 PSI of brake fluid can sqeeze through some seriously restricted lines without you noticing.
Check your rear brakes too. I had the fun of my truck changing lanes to the right all of it's own volition when braking on a trip across CA. Turned out the left rear axle seal had died and dumped 90 wt on the shoes and it was grabbing.
Heres what I did tonite. I took back my old calipers got the core charge back bought new semi metallic pads went home put er together and it stops fine no pull. Sumpin with the ceramic pads not working the same on both sides. I guess ill just deal with the dam brake dust cause it stops like it should now. 58.00 for the ceramics... oh well it could be worse ill just chalk it up as another learning experience. Dave
