So 2 weeks ago at a cruise night I'm standing beside my friend's 63 SS 409 Impala when this older man comes up to me and starts asking a million questions about it.... what year is it? what's it called? what's the motor? what's it worth? Finally I started giving him the "are you a cop or writing a book" look, and he explains to me that his girlfriend has one almost exactly the same sitting in her backyard that she's been meaning to get rid of. Right away my eyes light up and start asking HIM the questions. What does the grill look like? is it flat or slanted? Two tailights or three? etc etc... he tells me he doesn't know anything about it and neither does she, he father p***ed away and she got possession of it but now wants to get rid of it. I gave him my e-mail and I just got pics of it....

It's a 64 SS!!! She wants between $500- $1000 dollars for it, and it has the original motor & trans in it. I find out in a few days what she wants and where it is.

    Whats the chances it's a 409 or 327 car?
Pray for me my brothers [IMG]

  2. Ill keep my fingers crossed for you and hope its a 409.

Bring a piece of paper and a crayon and do a rubbing on the trim plate on the firewall. Then you can go online and check the numbers for the options it has.

But you probably already knew that.

I'd say it looks in pretty fair shape, alot better than my '64!

It's a cool car even with the smallblock, but a 409? Maybe you will be lucky!!!

Good Luck. Looks like a great find for the price no matter what it has in it.

  10. Some if the SS cars were hotrods. I'd be as happy as a pig in **** if it was a 327 car and think I died and went to heavin if it was a 409 car.

Hope it works out for ya. Looks like the start of a sweet ride.

Man what a deal... even if it has a incorrect 283 or even a 6, it's probably worth $1000 in SS parts. There still are great deals out there, I bought a 68 mustang for $500, runs and drives except for a blown brake line. The guy just didn't care about it anymore, and wanted it out of his yard. He didn't feel the same about his 67 fastback with a 428, but still... there's some good deals out there.

    Good deal.

Can't rule out it being a 409 car but it is not a 427 car. #1 the vinyl top and #2 the rust in the front sheetmetal. All 427 cars had aluminium front ends. #3 '63 only, #4 power windows.

Are you talking about the Z11 lightweight race package? Seems to me it was available in '63 only, and only 60 or so were made. Either way, I'd be happy with an "incorrect" 427 W-head mill between my fenders.

Wow is right! cool find for sure.
Regardless of what's in it, i hope it works out and you get it..

If i was in your shoe's and did get it, i'd check the underside of the car first for major rot etc..if it wasn't shot that ****er would be brought back to life and used as a daily driver..i wouldn't part it out unless the under side was a total waste.
    but thats just me :D

    good luck.

Your posting pics on a one 'hell of a score' (poss a rare car) that was dropped into your lap of a 64 ss that appears to be all there and your going to beat them up on 500 bux w/the intentions of poss. parting the car out?...Thats something a ****head would do in my opinion!
No wonder **** is getting hard to find.....

any ol engine could be in it, really. i have a 64 SS with a 230 six, 3 on the tree. from the paperwork i got with the car, i think it is original, as well as for the fact that the clutch linkages look like they are different for a 6. therefore if someone were to swap in a 6, they'd have to go through a little bit of trouble to make it all work in my 64. just saying that it doesn't look like a logical engine swap. DrJ saw a 64 SS with a 6 himself maybe 20 years ago, if i remember a post he made correctly. anything from the 230 to the 409 and everything in between was fair game, though the hi-po 409 tended to be a 4 speed only option. i did hear on here that you could get a 409 car with a dynaflow if you asked very nicely, if i remember correctly. no idea if that combo would have been a hi-po 409 or not, as i'd never heard it before.

gotta agree with that, although i don't know you so i won't call any names, but that is a heavily optioned car. it has front & rear bumper guards, gas door gaurd, and every p/w car i have seen ('64 impalas) have had power brakes and steering. probably has a clock, a tach, even maybe a ***lt wheel, that wheel seems to stick out further than a non tilt wheel, but that may just be the angle of the picture. i would do some heavy considering before parting that one out, that would be a terrible waste, although i don't think that is a vinyl top, there is usually a seam down the middle, front to rear where the 2 halves are dielectrically fused together, and it seems to have a "flat black shine" but i could be wrong. i am partial to '64s ( i have 4 ) so i hope you save her!!!!ken

Hey you better have at least a 1000 buks in your pocket because these kind of people have smart *** computer friends that think everything is worth a million bucks and they stall you for a while to see if they can get a better deal if you pull out the money that will do the work for you!!!!

And tell them you are going to restore it and drive it!!!!!

I have known people get cars and not get anything because of that reason!!!

You also better check out the floor it could be REEEEAL BAAAD!!!!

Don't make a lowrider out of it sell it to a collector!!!!!

    Nice!!!!!

    Chevy Lotto Ticket!!!!!

  25. Shoot, I'd round up as much gl*** as I could find, clean it up, slap some roller tires on it and throw it on eBay. As long as it's a V8 car even at $1000 you'd make money. I looked them up to help out some guys trying to sell an as-is wrecked one they had towed in and the owner abandoned, figured they'd get $2500 for it and it wasn't nearly as optioned as this, plus it needed a whole nose and maybe time on a frame machine to fix.

I p***ed up a real '64 SS 327(maybe) ragtop a while back but only because it was a New York car (think rusty enough to be lucky if it doesn't break in two), no interior, no engine or trans left, and because to get it you had to buy about 30 cars if I remember right. Maybe it would have come out in one piece, but where you going if you have to haul out **** like an AMC Eagle, Econoline vans and 4-dr '52 Buick Specials that will break in two when you pull on 'em?

Guy across the road from where this guy lived had about a '32, '33 Ford like 3/4 or 1 ton dump truck there in the yard. Grille, hood, one door gone, rest looked in good shape. "think he'd sell that?" "nope, people have been asking him for years..." probably as many years as it's sat there by the look of it.

You gotta get out there, figure out what kind of shape it's in and offer some cash, before it's too late.

    whoa whao whao!!!!

I only intend to part it out IF THE FRAME & FLOORS are shot!!! Are you packrats ****in crazy or what? I'm not THAT stupid!!! [IMG]

The reason is I own a 64 Bel air wagon (9 p***) but I sold the complete front end off it (stupid me) to put a 63 front end on it.... well guess what deal p***es by my way? a ****in MINT running 63 Bel air wagon for a killer price just outside Buffalo. So I'm buying the 63 and i need to flog the 64. I figured if the frame is shot I'll pull that front end, put it on the wagon and part the rest of the car out. If the car is good, **** that I'll get it running, throw a windshield in it and drive it!!
I'm waiting anxiously for the guy to e-mail me back... I'm going to haggle him, but not RETARTED haggle. If the guy & his girl want $1000 I'll offer a lower price just to get a better deal but I'm not a cheap ******* I'll give them what they want for it (again depending on the underneath)

-NO I'm not going to make it a lowrider
-YES I'll cut the coils and drop her down

Dear God please make this car a factory 409 'glide car to help fund one of my projects [IMG]

    ****fingers crossed sweating with anticipation*****
Can anyone say... Super Stock Don Nichols 64 replica? *****in'
