I have a 27T RPU that I was going to make some cool yard art including flower boxes in the bed for the wife. I thought I could get some ideas. Don't worry, It's a rough one.
My yard is full of odd faces and such. Heres my favorite. Its called "Married Man" and was done by Mort Olson. If ya live around Missoula and are into traditonal cars and old bikes, you know Mort.
I painted this with latex and a brush a few years ago for a 4th of July family re-union. Everyone liked it so much, I put it on the lawn for the 4th, Christmas, Memorial day, etc.... The guy I bought it for works for an oil company and he has a Nash he sets up for Christmas with Santa in it and reindeer in front and when you drive by, a photo-eye sets off two oil burner guns sticking out of the tailight holes - Yeeha that lights up real good like!. Currently I'm actually putting the Comet together for the road and am trying to decide if I should keep the paint theme somehow. Powerband
LOL, all of those yard arts are funny and great so far. I need to photo this welders yard art here in Tallah***ee. the guy is so cool. He welds giant Ants like 8 feel long out of metal. The other hambers from Tally here probably know the guy i'm talking about. he's a one man welding company, using old school hill billy welding tools so i love the guy.
Jean Shepard the quintessential american working man's humorist from Indiana talked about the art that people put in their yards. He called it Slob Art. Excelsior - You Fatheads! PB
Would love to show you some, but the town zoning says that stuff is 'junk' and prohibits it. Not to mention some of my neighbors are ***holes - going to have to cover up **** just to leave it on the trailer so I don't have to listen to them whine about how their necks are apparently broken and they can only look in one direction from their house no matter which way they turn. Which is kinda why I was reviewing the zoning earlier, town was thoughtful enough to put the whole thing online. At least I have 6 months on a car with no plates, maybe I can piss 'em off with something nice and ugly. But yeah, I have that mystery quarter panel from a '38 Dodge or Olds or something (no one seems to know, posted it a couple places), I'd love to find a matching door for and hang it up. It still has paint on it at least -
Brian McCutcheon's got some nice "patio" art. Actually had a chance to see this in person a year ago at the Art Ins***ute in Chicago. It's every bit as cool up close! "Trailer Queen" on left and "Trailer Queen II" on right
i built this out of some old truck shocks, old rusted out harley rims and fenders, some s**** fender parts and steel rod.
Yard art is a p***ion of mine.. This is a great post. draggin ***, thats a creative piece of work! wish it was mine. Heres another piece from my backyard. It was done by local artist Jim Rogers. I've had it for almost 20 years. I like the way it has weathered.
Here is my "Polish Gazing Ball" it is an old bowling ball mounted on a camshaft in a dog dish hubcap. I welded a earth anchor to the camshaft so as to keep it safe from theft. BB
This is my first attempt,,,,,take a ROUGH 30 model A and wire it together around a tree in the side yard ,,,plant a few flowers and ya got good ol' fashon southern yard art! HRP
Lanscaping is my #2 favorite thing behind hot rods. I'll get a pic of my deck tonight. I have a bunch of dinosaurs and stuff that I have made too. Not too much lately as I have a cool car project to work on! Here is the pile in front of my garage. If you look close there are parts off of about 4 different years and models here, all junk.
Great contributions guys. I've got a '32 1 ton I'm going to trim down for some yard art. it's just complete junk but I think I can make it look "intresting" from a distance. My plan is to make it mobile so I can tow it around with the garden tractor. That way I can "pose " it at different places on the yard and it won't sit too long in one place and kill the gr***. This might make it susceptable to theft but I can always chain my attack Shi-tzu to it to make sure it stays at home. Frank
My favorite s**** iron dinosaur is the Albertosaurus built by Russel Zeid for a local mall There's a description and identification of some of it's parts here; http://www.chinookcentre.com/features/albertosaurus.php Mike
