They look very much the same except the kingpins in the Lincolns are bigger diameter and the inclination angle is different.

It is too easy and cheap to get Ford spindles either 37-41 round flange or 42-48 square flange than to modify Lincolns to fit a Ford axle.

You could drill out the Ford axle to the Lincoln kingpin size or bush the king pin knuckles down to the Ford size or have thicker bushing machined to take it down to the Ford dimension. That solves the kingpin problem.

I'm guessing the only way to adjust for the spindle inclination would be to bend the Ford axle ends to match a Lincoln axle.

I worked on a 32 axle that was bored to Lincoln king size and it was kinda thin.
I would think a better way if you must is to bush down the spindles to the ford pin … then even the lock pin stays stock and the axle end thick.
Changing the angle is no big deal …. Press and an digital angle finder.

  6. There is no reasonable reason, that I can think of, to use Lincoln spindles on a Ford axle. The snouts and brake backing plate bolt patterns are the same. Good Ford 37-48 spindles show up on the HAMB cl***ifieds all the time for $125-$150. Replacement Lincoln king pin kits are available from several sources but they are pricy.

For my edification, if you don't mind, why do you want to do this?

  7. I rebushed a set of 48 Lincoln spindles that mated to the Lincoln Brakes to take Ford King Pins, and bent the spindle arms to clear a dropped axel. I then realised the king pin inclination is about 1 1/2 degrees different. The only way to use them as 296V8 says is to bend the axel. In my case the axel was cast.
This thread bring back memories of that mistake many years ago.
I guess it's time to put them in the Cl***ifieds now.
