Friend is building a budget car just to have some fun in. He already has frame/suspension. A 1928 chevy, with a sbc and th350, 10 bolt rear. He decided I was in charge of finding him a body, some one told me speedway had t bodies.
Went to their website, fibergl*** body is like $450, and $160 shipping.
So are these decent or keep looking for a steel body?
Ive worked with some gl*** bodies on dune buggies that were real thin and wavy, and pretty much garbage.
Any one have one or have experiences with one?

I've owned two Speedway bodies so far , a 23 bucket and my current 27 roadster. For the money they are really pretty good. Even the best ones need some work to make them perfect, but the Speedways are pretty straight out of the mold and do not exhibit some of the glaring flaws you sometimes see like parting lines, etc. The gl*** is not super thin either.

My 27 body is over 20 years old and is holding up fine. The 23 came along later and was good enough after normal bodywork to spray it gloss black.

I am collecting parts to build a drag altered Austin Bantam and will probably go to Speedway again.

Here is my 27 body in the raw.

And how the 23 came out after the usual body work.

I have a Speedway 27 T body, and am very happy with it, they do a pretty good job.

Hot Rod ***hole here on the HAMB builds many Speedway body 23 & 27's every year. I've seen quite a few of them in all stages of completion at his shop. If they weren't good he wouldn't be using them.

The 'T' in my avatar is a Speedway. It's been modified quite a bit, but the basic body was pretty good to begin with. Bought it in 1985, don't know how much things could have changed.

My T body is from California Custom Roadster's. It's THICK! I got it used and in great shape. I didn't need ANY wood reinforcing and they advertise that. Hell, I haven't even painted mine and it looks nice in the white gelcoat. It comes with the floor, as well. Only draw back is the price of a new one. $1,350

CCR, Spirit and RPM (Ron Pope) all make quality bodies.

  9. All the guys I know who have bought the speedway bodies have been pleasantly surprised.

Thay aren't perfect, but as Don's Hot Rods says, they dont have a lot of the usual fibergl*** bs and rework that one would expect for that price.

I'm planning on building a Speedway 'gl*** car at some point, so I can use a bunch of my O/T parts on it and then tell everybody to relax, because I didn't waste vintage tin with EFI and disc brakes!;)

  10. I'm using a 23t with a turtle deck on my altered and is very stiff even with big holes for tire clearance and needed very little prep work
