Wow, you have on hell of a sense of humor. It good to see people in good spirits after something like that.
Pretty helpless feeling, huh? Reminds me of the time that I was over at my mom and dads working on my dads 34. They live near the top of a perfectly straight and incredibly steep hill. As I'm working I hear their neighbors old truck rumbling slowly up the hill so I walk out to the street to say hello. He waves as he slowly creeps by but never stops (which he ALWAYS does). I watch as he keeps on going noticing a new motor in a crate in the back of his truck. Just as the thought came to mind "man there's no tailgate on his truck. I hope that motor doesn't come.....................", here it comes. The motor starts sliding out of the back of the bed. I yelled at him to stop, but he couldn't hear me. I stood helplessly as that brand new motor bounced out of the back of his truck and started tumbling down the hill. It didn't take very long for the crate to disintegrate from the motor. My only thoughts were that I hoped that no one got in its way, especially at the bottom of the hill where it meets a really busy road. The motor made it down the hill, across the road and into a ditch on the other side. Close to an 1/8 of a mile. He came walking down to where I was standing in amazement with kind of a "well sh!t" look on his face. I helped him gather up the motor and get it back to his garage. The motor didn't look to be hurt that bad. He proceeded to swap out the valve covers and oil pan and went ahead and put it in his daughters Bronco. That motor never gave him any trouble. Amazing. Chris
Ha Ha what? How many people had to dodge that pile? No rope,no tie downs,no tail gate,No*****in'brains,no*****in'pains. I'd be ashamed to relate a story of such monumental idiocy for everyone to read, much less Ha Ha it! T.OUT
Do you seriously think im stupid? it was tied down and wrapped in a huge blanket but it was close to the tailgate. His tailgate came unhinged and the mmotors was close enough to the gate that it bumped it knockin the tailgate down. then it went on from that point. I was driving ahead of him.
I'm just a stupid girl but I thought you load heavy stuff toward the front... Lugnut IS a good name for you. I bet you were in the fast lane too...
Couple weeks ago in Oklahoma City a couch fell out of a pickup on the interstate and two people were killed in the rollover that resulted from them trying to avoid it. The police are still looking for the owner of the couch. Someone gets hurt from your negligence, and your liable. You were lucky. And yes I've done stupid***** before and got away with it too. Just food for thought. George
Stupid boys think that too. I had a SBC on a pallet in the back of my (then) new Isuzu Hombre, had it all strapped down and held tightly againt the front of the box... You know where I'm going with this... yup, some****hole in a Kia Sportage cuts across 3 lanes of traffic to make a left turn and I slam on the brakes, engine breaks straps holding it to the pallet and puts a huge dent in the front of the PU box and the panel below the window on the cab. Moral of the story is to strap down 535lb objects from moving in ALL directions before moving them AND never be courteous to Kia Sportage drivers.
i thought i only towed stuff in the fast lane and watcxh traffic come to a streaking hault as parts of a frame come flying off opps
I got imagine it looked like a meteor hit the highway after that hit the ground. How did you guys move it off the highway or did you leave it and tear****.
HotRodDrummer's uncle got KILLED a couple of weeks ago from something that came flying off of a trailer and thru his windshield. His young daughter had to watch from the back seat as her father was killed instantly. ***** needs to be tied down properly.
AND THATS WHY it's better to have more tie downs then not enough! I'd never forgive myself if I was the reason someone's child, father or mother never made it home because of my laziness. I use heavy chain and motorcycle straps when I carry ANYTHING. I never drive over 55 and I very really get out of the slow lane. Might take me longer, might piss me off in the end, but at least I have a piece of mind. Just my .02 on it. xxx Brandy
Evidently not Tatts... You guys didn't listen to me either when I said "shouldn't it be shoved all the way to the front?"... I believe it was Dreamweaver that said "it looks ok, it'll be fine".
I'm just like you Brandy, I keep a big canvas tool bag thats got prob. about 20-25 tie-downs in it. I tie it down in ALL directions, with a lot of overkill. Better to be safe than sorry!
how about***** happens. there are steps you CAN TAKE to avoid it. I DID not load my motor up, I WAS TRUSTING my buddy. MURPHY's LAW states that anything that can go wrong will.. and so be it. DON'T COME IN HERE and POST a comment TRYING TO criticize me. especially you 2 "lady's". "lugnut is a good name for you" wow.. your halarious. thanks for all the help. this board is about helping eachother out. I JUST LOST my MOTOR. and IM trying to be OPTAMISTIC. your not helping much so just.*****. off. Luckily my motor rolled.... for awhile......and hit the center devider. where it layed to rest till a tow truck came and dropped it off at my house.
what do you know about Murphys Law?? Murphys Law is applied to situations where actual planning is a factor... i wouldnt tell a*****in soul about this.... i think these CHICKS carry more sense than you.... TAKE NOTES
I ......KNEW ....a guy who hauled a 460 ford engine and trans in a mini pickup in the middle of bed and un tied. He had to make a panic stop in traffic and a guy folling him, then rear ended him.....CRUSHING him and the datsuns' cab- he died as a result.
Well I was going to say you're a*****ing IDIOT, but that would be your "buddy"! I never haul an engine without at LEAST four tie-downs, each designed to hold the entire weight of the engine. Just glad you didn't kill anybody. Hope the engine is not hurt, & you've learned a valuable lesson. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver" If you can't take the heat, get out of the nuclear reactor.
