Well after a hard 6 weeks or so of tearing apart, rebuilding painting etc. I was finally able to drive my 1941 Ford shop truck for the first time today!!. Put about 30-40 miles on it, trouble free, mostly. The 305 ran strong, timing and carb needed a little adjusting, trans shifted fine, the kick down needed adjusted, fixed. Develpoed a minor oil leak, (fixed) I think? couple minor rattles to sort out. Heater works GREAT, pretty comfy and cozy. The bed wood should be ready to buff out this week and install this coming weekend. I still have to paint the hood and gate, then touch up and buff the rest, not a show paint job, but very presentable. I cannot decide yet if I want my shop logo on the doors yet, still thinking on that one. My son who is 13 was really excited to go for a ride as he has really helped a lot on this project. Progress will slow for the next 2-3 weeks due to school and Monster Jam!! I hope to ****on it up by mid feb, still got a lot of little things to do, but hey it is a driver now! Next I will start my 40 delivery. whatcha think guys?

Congratulations on getting to drive your truck. It looks pretty cool. Someday I'd like to drive mine but I'm starting to wonder.

Congrats! Looks like you guys have a sweet little truck there.

Nothing better than a first drive. I remember it takes a couple of days for the smile to fade from my face after a first drive. Have fun.

That first ride is one of the best; especially if you can take along a significant helper. Building memories is a great pasttime.
    Keep working,

Put some wood side rails on it thru the stake pockets, and Letter em up with your shop name, old school and easy to take on or off.

    Looks great! Congrats!!

Since you asked, I'd get rid of those seats, sporty steering wheel and late model column and swap in something more period correct. Just my opinion, whatever floats your boat! :)

I've been working on mine for over 8 years since pulling it out of a field in Iowa. Getting closer to the finish. Yours looks killer. I really like the wheel setup!!!

Looks like its come around! I take it you change the motor. Looks good. I might offer a sugestion on your front seat, an early ranger seat works great and gives more room than buckets.

seats are from a VW I had sitting here. When I got it it just had plywood with foam glued to it and not bolted down etc. I tried an S-10 seat, but was a bit wide at the doors so I just used waht I had with cheapo seat covers. The column is a caddy tily telescopic, not my favorite, but it works and finding wheels and adapters for those is not that easy, so I found this set up and it looks better than the ****py stock steering whell that was in it. It is a FRESH 305. I plan to freshen that 350 that was in it for my 40 delivery. It has a stang II front end so not too worried about period correct, but I do admit it is a little mixed up on era's right now. Plans call for 16 x7 and 18 x 9 salt flats, but cash is really low right now so I am just trying to work with and make the best out of what I have. Chances are it will be sold or traded within a year or 2, but I want it safe and dependable most of all. Thanks for the word of encouragement!

It has stake pockets but they are filled. I may have the logo put on in vinyl on the doors then I can easily remove If I sell it or decide I dont like them?

Here is a rough picture of what it once was. I realy like it like this better, but the previous owner decided to **** it up, then I ended up with it in a trade.

I know what you mean, I had a 40 similar to your before pic, sold it to a guy who immediately put on the largest WWW's he could buy, along with a huge visor that was off of a Hudson and looked like ****, and a set of full skirts. Looked like a JC Whitney catalog puked on it. Got a pic somewhere...

First drive, good for you. Only because you asked..the high back buckets just don't work.

yeah the seats do kinda ****. I did save the original riser "just in case" Again I plan to let my wife drive this a bit and wanted something BOLTED in not just sitting there. I plan to check out the ranger seat, possibly an early Toyota or Nissan. Those buckets are actually pretty comfy, just really not what I wanted. When I get a few extra bucks I'll hit the yards to see what turns up. The column may get replaced with a Speedway column, but again as funds allow. Just glad to be able to drive it, I was planning on buying a new late model truck for work, but this one may have to suffice for a little while. Bad thing is I work construction, and not all the job sites are paved if you know what i mean?

the truck looks great man.nothing like drivin home in a hot rod or custom after work.as for the seats, steering wheel and anything else the whiners don't like,at least it on the road, not sitting waiting for the CORRECT parts!i wonder if all the traditional police even have something to cruise in?! go get it dirty man
