They came with both Carter WCFBs and Rochester 4GCs. You won't be bolting Edelbrocks to it without some adapter plates.

they came with carter wcfb's and only the rear came with a choke. "correct" ones cost a mint, but you can find wcfb's and epoxy the front choke shaft holes and they will work fine. they are about 380 cfm apiece, so you'll need a bit of cam to run right

The Edmonds 2 x 4 probably has the early "square" (it isn't quite) bolt pattern. If so it would take 1952~1955 four-barrel carbs. These would include in alphabetical order:

    (1) Carter SOME WCFB's
    (2) Holley 2140 and 4000
    (3) Rochester SOME 4GC's
    (4) Stromberg 4A

I would probably suggest the Strombergs

The 2 x 2 setup can run a number of different carbs if the owner wishes. We have set up several that used two of the original Carter WCD 595s carbs.

edelbrock 500's are the closest off the shelf carb you'll find as I recall. I had one, once, that had 2 holley 600's on it. looked like crab and they barely fit--not sure if it would have even run.

as mentioned above the correct one's are spendy--from what I recall one was like 490 and one was 505 or something odd like that.

FWIW, it's also my understanding that they need to be run as a direct setup (running 2 barells from each carb initially then opeing they other two), not not a progressive 2-4-6-8 deal.

Although the WCFBs that came on Chevrolet and Chrysler dual quad setups used one choke, the Cadillac setup had chokes in both carburetors. That's not to say that you have to set yours up the same way, but that's how it was from the factory.

I ran 2 500 CFM Edelbrock on my Weiand 2x4 Caddy.I like to pull the "Edelbrock" metal tag off the front of the carbs.

  9. stock Cad is going to want less CFM. a slight cam and raised compression and those 500's will smoke the tires

Good point, I should have mentioned that my 2x4 Caddy was punched out to 354 CID,Jahns Pistons, healthy Cam, headers, etc. Made lots of Torque! I am considering building another Caddy for my 34 and pulling the flathead for something else.

  11. M:)arkus you had the king of Cads, I've owned 5 cars with 331's looking forward to someday go 365-390. but every 331 has been totally reliable and great performers. always went with dual quads my current 331 in a 54 GMC has the 58 tri-power. still not on the road yet...48hemi/noname

How much CFM did the single two barrel flow on a stock early 331? How much performance can be gained by using a bigger carb or multiple carbs on a otherwise stock engine?

Just bolting a stock cast Iron 4V Intake with an Edelbrock carb would show a great improvement in performance.I wouldnt go too crazy on multi carbs and intake on a stock engine, you will hurt the performance more than improve it.

this is what i have now stock intake with a edelbrock carb now.i don't want to change the engine to much maybe just a new cam if that will work with the dual fours ,if not i may just put a dual 2 barrel intake with stormbergs. ijust want a hot rod look.finned valve covers and valley cover.

I was actually replying to swissmike, but Two dual carbs on a stock 4 bbl intake would be cool or a stock dual quad with 4 carbs inline.

Got a stock rebuilt 331 that I am thinking of putting a repop 2x2 Offenhauser with 94's on it or just go with the stock 2 barrel for a early 50s style custom.

Vintagespeed.com sells the 2x2 Offenhauser intakes drilled for either 3 or 4 bolt carbs.
