None of my "quick builds" ever end up being quick either. :D At least you got to hear it run! Congrats

  4. tanks man... hopefully tomorrow i will have some time to put the radiator in and drive it over to the other side of the yard so i can weld in the permanent base motor mounts... not those hack job triangles lol....

  7. its gettin there, woke up this morning to a snow storm.. grrr, the weather finaly let up so i could get this thing over to the welder, strapped a gas can to the front grill bumper area, ran a hose to the fuel pump, and plumed up the carb, and wouldn't ya know the fuel pump wasn't pumping, but seeing as i am seated (in a plastic lawn chair i might add) next to the motor, why not just conjure up my human fuel injection, so a little soda bottle in hand i filled up the carb through the vent, and she fired up and ran enough to get it across the yard got the first motor mount roughed in, and wouldn't ya know the sun was setting and the temerature dropping, so next day off i fire up the old lincoln 220 buzz box and weld in some decent base motor mounts. then its put the radiator in for good and replace the fuel pump, wire up the alternator, and onto gettin the new wheels and tires situated. but thats gonna be in the spring, unless the snow holds off.. then i could just maybe get her done. that would be nice. :)

  8. well made some more progress, said bye bye to ugly, hacked to **** angle iron base motor mounts, and got the mounts welded in and fish plates welded in pedestal mounts in with new rubber, got the alternator tightened down and some of the hoses on the motor, next time i get some times, its mount the radiator and fill it up, then its on to puttin the RV windows and start fitting the gadgets and gizmos.

  11. got the radiator in and hoses connected, filled it with coolant, got the charge wire hooked up to the alternator went to run it to the battery and found out that the battery clamps need to be replaced, and realized that not a single circuit is fused.. oh boy, but there isnt anything complex electrical wise so a 5 gang fuse block should be enough to protect all the circuits.

  12. its so great to have parts cars. my dead ex-daily driver donated a battery cable and clamp, and the large gas tank was liberated from a frame that is going under my 50 dodge, all 34 gallons of it is now going under my van, had to gut the in tank fuel pump for use in a carbed vehicle, and when it gets converted to EFI the pump will be changed back. now just need to fab up some hangers and strap so it will stay in there.

  13. I will hopefully get some pictures of the in tank pump turned into just a pickup. i nabbed a piece of stainless fuel line from the previously mentioned frame, put a little flare on the end so it would insert into where the pump used to go, coming along id say. hopefully pictures tomorrow, and maybe the weather will hold out for a bit so i can get this tank in.

  14. tanks in! fabbed up a seat bracket and now the nice comfy mercury seat is in, and next week i cut down the rear hubs so they will fit in my rear end so i can finally get decent modern wheels and tires, gonna need to make the wheel openings smaller, and since I have to cut a bunch out for windows and such i'll have lots of aluminum sheet to work with.

The original intake on the engine pic looks to be a half-four barrell intake that Chevy used on 267's made from 79-81. I've had quite a few of those motors. Good low end torque and great on gas. Same stroke as a 305/350 but very small bore. Let us know if ya ever pull the heads and measure the bore. Also the side of the block will say 267 I think on the starter side. Look like a fun build...

    Talk about knowledge !!!
    You are amazing Jim!
Thanks for all your info, that is always correct too.
    Cheers.

  17. I love jim! he has answered some of the most oddball questions i have asked.. no its a 305, stamped on the side of the block, got it for $100 with only 70k on it, was the stock engine from a 79 camaro, this thing is no hotrod so a 150hp 305 works just fine for me. with the gearing this thing has it will still pull a house lol. but hopefully that will change so i can actually do the speed limit without revving the motor to 6000rpm lol.

  18. well I figured I would share a pic or 2 of the machine work I have been doing to the back hubs, I needed to take almost .900 off of the hubs to make them work, and drill the holes out to 41/64ths so the 5/8's wheel studs will press in,
    [IMG]
first pic of the amount of metal I had to take off,
    [IMG]
it took almost 9 hours on the brake lathe to get to this point,
    [IMG]
and this was the first attempt at fitting the 55 hubs with the 63 drum, no go, so I decided to take the metal of the thicker 63 hubs, and save the 55 hubs and drums so if I ever find some 19.5 or 17" rims i can revert to the orriginal 55 brakes.
this is how it will look, and its sitting on the new rims and tires, just need to put new bearings and races in the hub and press in the wheel studs, and a few other simple things, then the new setup will work. and for grins i put the 16.5 rim on the front, and of course the tire hits the tie rod end. go figure....
