Made the mistake of tearing my 57 F100 apart, and it will be some time before it will be on the road, so I picked up another one. I needed something to drive to the cruise ins and swaps this spring and a guy I know happened to have this F100 for sale. Traded him some stuff I didn't need anymore and here I am. Don't let the pictures fool you, the truck is pretty rough (lots of sheetmetal and screws in places you can't see) but it runs, drives, and is savable. Plans for right now are #1 Do not take apart or make undrivable! #2 Rebuild/replace carb, check/replace brakes, tune-up #3 Install dropped axle, springs, shocks that I all ready have. #4 Have seat recovered. #5 Install new wide whites. My goal is to build a daily driver/parts chaser as cheap as possible while never taking the truck out of service for more than a day or weekend.

Thanks guys. Just need a truck that I can drive and enjoy. Looking at my Big Window tore apart in the shop was depressing. This is not a replacement, just a temporary driver. After va***ing out the cab, cleaning windows, and wipping down the interior (It's amazing how anything clean is better looking) I changed out the carb with a rebuilt one and completed a basic tune up this week. Steve Fields was asking $2000.00 for the truck (not bad for a running, driving truck) I traded him some parts that I valued at $1500.00 So, my total investment up to this point is a little over $1620.00 Plans are to go through the brake system this week and replace anything thats needed and to pull the seat out and get it recovered. I'll start taking some pics when I get to the stuff that will change the looks of the truck. 02/12/12- $1620.00
i like these f100 s cool lil parts haulers , to bad most of the ones i see forsale are all out west and its more than the cost of the truck to ship one here
Cool man... I actually had my eye on that truck a couple months ago, when another guy owned it. Even being a little rough, not a bad deal. A little inspiration for ya... I love this truck!! Malcolm
I like it. I have a '48 F1 but keep looking at the 57-60 trucks for the bigger cab.... and I'm really a GM guy.
malcolm, nice truck. how did you get that front end down so low? I just ordered a 2" dropped axle from sid for my 57.
I've always really liked the '57's but have to admit I've never liked the four eyed Fords nearly as much. I've always wondered if you could section the headlight surrounds to reduce them to single lights, then section the center of the grill - you'd have to add a section out of a 2nd grill - to make the front "single eyed"? I think you'd also have to move the eyebrows on the hood OR swap a '57 hood onto it - if it would look right. Anyone done this? Have a photo?
Not 100% sure but I believe all you need is the 57 headlight surrounds and 57 grill to make that swap. I believe the hood will work but I like the 57 hood.
Been busy lately but finally got some time to post an update. Well, the truck is a lot rougher than previously thought, but I'm still going to play around with it. Found the seal on the rearend leaking really bad, so I decided to pull the bed off and work on that. When I got under the truck found some other issues, so I'm going to go ahead and do the rearend now. As the photo shows, the rear crossmember is trashed, so I'm going to change it out and put a trailer hitch on the truck while I'm at it. Starting on notching the frame and flipping the axle.
The bed is savable. Somebody in the past had installed a replacment bed floor with lots of screws. Took a few minutes to s****e the loose material and undercoating off to see what I have to work with...
Cut out the old crossmember and installed a new one. I had some 3 1/2" X 3 1/2" tubing, so even though it's a little over kill, I used it for the crossmember/hitch. Got the rearend above the axle, and have started working on how I am going to do the notch on the frame. I'm going to fab a rear bumper out of stainless tubing that slides into the hitch mount. When I'm towing my little trailer, it won't matter that I do not have a bumper. Busy with other stuff, so this project is hit or miss...
Nice score on the truck looks like a great start That truck is perfect just what I am looking to do. How did you lower it and what size tires do you have on it.
