You should do a tech piece on tinning butter.

  6. I don't usually like touching my phone when I'm doing lead work. But I will do that. It's the easiest step of the process. No less important, just straight forward.

Here's a video.. Too bad Barris don't shut the fuck up!

Hey bro, signed up just to get notifications to watch the build. Took me no less than 3.5 hours to go through all of the 2 threads to get caught up on all you have done. Massively impressed with all you have pulled off on the Elco. Love the build.

Was great seeing your skinny ass last weekend. The next time I'm up in Rialto at my Mom's I'm gonna have to carve out a couple hours and make a run over to your place and see this bad boy in person.

  9. My skinny ass has been sick for the past two days. Sorry I can't give you those 3.5 hours back. Thanks for the good words! I wouldn't tell anybody you're my brother.. these folks might take it out on you! With your wood working skills an automotive knowledge, between the two of us we should build a Ford Woody. I wouldn't wanna sell it in the end, though! And leave me your cell number in a private message.

  10. Ray gave me an old issue of Rod & Custom. Sept. 61

I took pictures of the amusing bits. There's no cover on it, probably cos X-Sonic is in here.. read to death!

I feel your pain as do half the people that were here that weekend. We all ended up sick I have a horrible cough right now.
The 3.5 was worth it. As some one who has put the blood and sweat into a build (though never finished) on his own I love seeing someone else doing the same. Its the journey more than the destination.
Trust me I'd love to build a woody. Something along these lines. A '51...

  12. That's a 51.. and posting Street Rods around here will get ya lynched. Pre-64 era traditions. But yeah, you get the idea! I would love to build a 41-48 Ford Woody. We'll I'm off to go watch the Winternationals!

Uhh... err... Im mean.... Who would do that to a '51!!!
    HAHA, note taken!!

Your right in the era that im not as much of a fan. I really like the pre 40s (more squared off). But a 48 done right can have the same effect.

Anyways, enough thread-jacking on my part.

  14. Had to add a bit more lead to a few low spots.

  15. Cut and rolled up a t shirt to wipe the tinning, after it's been heated

    Heat the tinning

    Wipe that area

    repeat

    then apply the solder

    Still more work to do

    Awesome possum!

Its important to see how it is supposed to look versus reading about it. When you start spreading the lead around, what did you use; a wooden paddle? I have seen them and I'm curious to know how long the tallow stays on the paddle before you are having the lead stick to the paddle.

I like how in post #347 how you obscurred the photo with the 80's wheel in it. Ha! Just think, someday a kid born around now will be restoring a V6 powered Firebird and will be searching eBay of wheels just like that.

  17. I hate them effin' wheels. They're a knock off of Lil' John Butteras early work. They're a copy of a centerline with five holes in 'em.. EEeewWW! Did I say I hate 'em yet, cos I do. I don't have anything else that fits the disc brakes up front, so I'm stuck with them.

I use beeswax on wooden paddles. I only put the beeswax on twice to do all that. I'm learning that too much beeswax is annoyingly messy.

  18. Filled in the lic plt area, on the front bumper today. Now it just needs more finishing work

  20. GM called 'em sedan pick-ups, so I guess that makes them "trucks". Thanks, for the good words!

Are you going to do the bumper bolts as well? You know you want to.... :)

  22. Actually, I'm not going to shave the bumper bolts. I like 'em, they don't bother me at all. Like rivets on jeans, they just belong there! Now when someone looks at the bumper, everything looks like it should've been!

  23. Loving the progress...won't be long now!

  24. Tomorrow I will be working on the lower front valance. The driverside fender will be in there somewhere, too. I have more lead work to do.. Fun-Fun!

Here in Michigan the original title listed it as a truck, as does my current title... hence ,the commercial license plate.

  26. Yep.. same here! Commercial truck plates, I had to have it weighed in order to finish registering it. Hope you're well, Mike!

Glad you hate the wheels, bravo.
I didn't fill my bumper bolts either, they go underneath so you really can't see them, BTW, where can you get good quality bumper bolts from?

  28. Danchuk would have a good bumper bolt. But Imma say they're probably no better than your local hardware stores

  29. Welded the lower valance together.

Mockin' things up.. and there was lots of that!
