Cool;) Are parts obtainable? There is zero here (I only heard of one other wagon here in years, and very few sedans). Was thinking to replace suspension and brakes so at least I could get spare bits for the old gal.

Is this subtle enough? Sorry, I can´t resist photoshopping interesting cars like this!
I cut it just enough so that you can keep the original screen, if you sink it into the cowl a little. Also I tipped the roof back slightly and slanted the B pillars just a tiny bit.

I had to google the fregate cause i had no idea what it loked like, and i was surprised at how nice i is. Even found a couple of nice customs, a blue one w/ tuck n roll interior was particularly cool.
Old french cars have so much damn potential, theyre probably nicer than anyother old euros, cept late 60 and early 70s opel of course :)

Im real happy to see this taking shape, i honestly hope more people will start building serious euros.

I guess it's easier to find part for a french car in france :D i had a hard time finding my oval fregate mouth, and i believe a nice usable grille will be even harder to find ! I don't know about a regular source for fregate parts, but you can find stuff on " le bon coin" .

the turquoise one is one of the french custom icons . the doors weren't lengthened, which suck, but the car is cool

That´s really cool! French Shoebox. Could use gutters and chrome bumpers, but really nice.

Thanks Zed, I do look there, it's where I found my wagon. I fancy the grille with the horizontal bar (mine is plain oval type), but think nice ones are rare as honest politicians..

    Hey Zed,

I'm diggin all the work you and JamesD have done on Le Coupe ':) It's tough to change many of the Pininfarina designed lines on a 403, and still keep it clean. The orange one kinda wanders from the ideal in my eye, what with the shape of the quarter windows, missing rain gutters & some side trim to break up the slab sided look. The Renault Caravelle/Floride? taillamps are interesting:rolleyes:

Maybe a front screen from a Dauphine would work in the Coupe' to keep you from having to cut down the oem 403 one? Yeah, a shitload of welding to let in the frame and all, but you get a smaller opening and oem gasket & glass. This would give you a better flow off the cowl to the greenhouse, but still keep the general 403 lines. This would require you lay back the A Posts some, but not a stupid amount:) I'd rather walk thru hell on sunday than cut down a laminated screen if I don't have to. Too, if the screen is ever broken you can change it out for an oem one.

The facebars on some early 203's had ribbs in them, kinda like '49 Plymouth facebars-keep an eye out for them for use in a future kustom build;)

56 simca aronde unit turned upside down and frenched :D remember i want my car 100% french part ;) may be it was inspire by the orange one which is an old custom, i don't really know :p

Zed which Fregate oval grille are you looking for there're 2 kind, I have one of them extra, but no chrome surroundings (for now I keep it).
I looked at the pics I have of my station wagon, they're all crappy and the roof pancake can't be clearly seen.

    thanks chris

i'm looking for the one without the chromed surround ! i prefer seeing the lip of the mouth, and the kinda frenched look without the chrome surround ...talk about fat chance :D

i've heard there is particular model where the horizontal bar is just bolted, and as i want to remove that bar it could be easier, but i don't know which year

You guys should keep quiet about these Frégates,or everone will want one. Really cool looking cars, though I think chopping one nicely would be a real pain in the derriere.

    Hey,

I'd rather cut a Fregate than a Volkswagen Bug..........mega pita!

Zed, what about the Aronde grille that's concave in shape, with no center bar, but inverted, maybe easier to find than a Fregate grille & surround?:D

James D, that's one sexy chopped Fregate 2dr.:) Probably easier to park and keep fuel in than a '49-'52 Chevrolet or Merc.

Check out the Fregate for sale on ebay france, now. It's a '57, and the grille looks like a bolt in!

The center bar is always bolted on, there are 4 tabs welded on the grille, to me that particular grille is found only on '55 Fregate Amiral, this is going to be a real tough one to find, everyting from '56 on has the chrome surrounding.

If i could put my hand on one of those very rare and expensive vedette coupe i would definetly chop it like this...and graft some longer rear fenders from the next model of vedette . will look way better to me than the stock one

another of my rare and expensive dream car is the 203 convertible..or coupe . you did a wonderful photoshop one of those babies ;)

the yellow aronde, is "Lowmlette" , one of my favorite french custom of the 80's, the other one is the turquoise fregate :) I hope to have a "Grand large" ( the hardtop coupe version) because of that car, and would chop the car the right way, tilting the rear window because the rear of the roof just don't look good on this one

    Yeah "Lowmlette" I remember now.

Whats that wierd junkyard/classic car place in France, where the owners wife is always posing half naked on the cars? They had a very rough Vedette coupe on the site last year. Maybe it´s still there as it was in a photo, but not listed for sale. It was a real wreck though. maybe you could put the body on a better sedan floorpan and frame.

    THis thing?

Forgot what kind of car that was. :D
These Darl Mat and Chapron cars are mostly too nice to mess with anyway. I may take a shot at a regular 203 though. They have a lot of potential.

yes that's a 203 coupe! :D fuckin expensive ! and Darl mat sedan and convert were even more expensive ! they were dropped, skirted and chopped by the dealer ! talk about cool

the 203 coupe and convert have rear part of the body that are specific and gorgeous, but the roof and rear of the vedette coupe is just ugly for factory ! i would prefer buy a long rear fender vedette and make a coupe out of it ! cheaper and more beautifull i think

i don't know what's the real story behind that half naked ugly old woman, but one thing i know it's they are german people !!! i know you're not, but that's funny they came in france to do THAT :D the car are way overpriced, and the rumors said it some kind of orgy place ...

    Hey,

Looks like the '58-'60 Renault Fregates had no centre grill bar. The cheaper model had no big surround.

Coachbuilders Chapron,Boano & Motto all built 2dr. examples of Fregates. Pierre Lefaucheux, director of Renault, was killed in a Fregate:eek:

Zed, if your grill is made of stanless & not chrome, that's a goog thing:) Stainless can be straightened, ground, filed & polished to a mirror finish:D

All those 2drs. look very hot!
