Here are the pictures of the engine. Tell me what you guys think. He is asking $12K, is it worth it. it is a standard bore 4.23 427 side oiler. here are the casting numbers. Heads C70E 6090K, Intake C70E 9425-A, Top of piston SK-37015MOD, bottom side of piston C8AX 6110A, Block by the oil filter area the date is hard to tell but it looks like 6A13, The back of the block has 66-427, The crank is C4AEB, The rods C6AE-E they also have 39 over B3, The carbs tag has series C3AE Type CA Date B, on the back of the horn has 314 C3AE-9510-C List 2652-1. The block has no other casting marks other than the date and the 66-427 on the back. The block on the side looks like a rough casting or maybe a weld, its hard to say there is nothing on the inside though it is only in the outside of the block I need to take a freeze plug out to determine for sure though. What rods are in this are they lemans or what? The #8 piston has had something hit it. the hole around the spark plug in the combustion chamber has a little area from this as well. Take a look at the pics. Is it worth $12 K or not if not what is the current value. i will post some more pics on the next thread.
    Thanks
    Jon

best check out some of the Ford FE sites for a 'real' answer. I used to work for a guy that had one of the (remaining) six 1966 factory race car Fairlanes, it is/was a NHRA SS/D car, and we were ALWAYS looking for 427 parts and following up leads. He has retired and the car is for sale at 200K$
Being a stick car, it was pretty hard on stuff:D
12K might be right for this engine. The carbs were stamped with an "A" and a "B", but it has been too long to remember the specifics.

looking thru the pics, that carb with the "B" is right on!
pic #14 looks like the block has been repaired, but does not mean anything bad, these were RARE engines 'in the day'. 40+ years out they are extremely rare.
This engine that you found must have a 'backstory', it did'nt just "show up" can you say who had it? or are you just wanting to know if you should 'pull the trigger' on buying it?
    good luck

Are you looking to buy this to use in something or to resell? I think (in my opinion) its overpriced by about 4k but thats just me. If you parted that motor out you would be in that range. If you are buying to resell just walk away from it.

I tend to agree with Fast67 that it is overpriced. If it was a runner, $12K may not be too far out, but you got at least one piston that looks like it was attacked with a hatchet, that would be enough for me to want to tear it down and go through it. Depending on how much damage there is, a person could easily spend a few more grand getting it rebuilt.

It boils down to what you want to do with it, the sum of the parts is probably worth more then the ***embled engine.

    Good Luck.

How many forums are you going to post the same question on? Until you hear what you want to hear?

The block has already been repaired its broken again. Its value is pretty much nothing.
The cast 390 crank's are usually given away or bring few $ if std std in nice shape.
The Lemans rods have been worked over and are very questionable of usable. Pistons are toast. That leaves you the tunnel port heads and intake. The tunnel port heads are known for cracking so their value depends on how much they have been cut, prior repairs and if cracked or not. The carb has nothing to do with a Tunnel Port. I do not see the hard to find timing pointer, and 427 only balancer. So what ever the going rate for the tunnel port stuff is in current condition is about all the value thats there. Block is JUNK and the rest of shortblock unknown. 12k is about 8-9k too much.

Carb looks complete and has correct 2995 metering block so has some value but not a bunch. If it were a BT/BU Tunnel port-SOHC carb would be worth far more. Pictured carb is low riser style carb.

  7. Other than the intake and dist that thing is hardly a Core. If it's not already yours, move on. 12K, no way. Maybe 2K. Unless your doing a car that needs to be numbers correct you can do a lot better. Keep Shopping.
