Hey everyone, I'm new to this site and new to posting on any site. I always seem to end up here when surfing for parts or ideas on my 50 fleetline, so i figured i would join. Tonight I have been tossing around the idea of doing a straight axle on it. The project is just getting started and at this point I'm in the design (dreaming) stage. I do however have the engine, i scored a 283 complete and have started some body work....mostly the roof, got the car cheap as a oak tree had decided to use it as a bed. So hello to all and look forward to any advice, input links ect. I attempted to add some photos, one of the day I got it and one after i gutted and washed the interior. I think it sat in a flooded field but who knows.
Welcome to the HAMB a '50 Fleetline would make a cool cruiser. Whatever you do don't put a straight axle in a body style like a fleetline, it would just be plan ugly and destroy the good looks of the fleetline. CRUISER
Yeah, cruiser that is what me and my buddy were just saying about the fleetline! I just love the g***er look but most likely going the cruiser route, plus it will save me a ton of time and coin. And be a bit more practical
What part of Illinois you from? If you go cruiser....I am pulling the running, driving, stock drivetrain out of my 50 Chevy, and it has a powerglide rear axle in it so you can cruise 60-65 comfortably. Drove it all summer, ready to go. I am going to a T5 andopen drive so no use for it. But either way, welcome aboard.
Small world Greaser! Talked to you a week or so ago, looking forward to getting them springs from you!
Welcome from SC. Your car looks solid and a great start. good luck on it. Hay isn't there a small tractor maker in that part of the country,
Thanks for all the greetings! The car is kinda solid, needs the usual fixes, floors, bottom of quarters and rockers.....and of course that 61 year old paint looks nice wet. Any one used the floor braces they sell, i was just gonna use square stock for the bracing and make the floor myself as the repops are way to pricey for me, but just was wondering if the bracing was worth it to buy.
