Hi all! I just picked up a 1954 Customline 2dr this past week. Its got the original 239 Yblock and has been sitting since 2007. The PO air bagged the car all around and converted the front brakes to Disc. He moved out of state and it sat at his parents house since (this is where I come in). The only problem it has (which is kind of a big deal) is the brakes. He said immediately following the brake conversion, they just didnt work (hard pedal but doesnt stop the car). I havent had time to diagnose so I may be posting in the technical section. I imagine if the pedal is firm, it could be the booster or lack of vacuum to the system itself. Either way, great to be here and I hope to learn a lot. So far what I can tell, it needs a few items: (if you know of good new/used sources for any of these items, dont be afraid to holler! -Front Grill parts -Drivers side Wing Window -Drivers Seat leans too far back -Misc Front Grill Parts -Rear Trunk Lock -Drivers side inner door handle -Drivers Window frame Loose (wobbly) -Exhaust / mufflers (those side pipes are a bit loud) -Heater Core (leaking) Here's a pic of her before I get er home And a pic now -Christian
Nice! I've always liked those '53-'54 business coupe Fords. Cool looking with the longer deck lid; or so it seems longer deck lid.
I bought a 30' 5 window coupe and the brakes were hard but didn't stop for beans. It was not power brakes and when I checked the ratio of the brake pedal lever to the master cylinder it was about 1.75:1. After looking online I found 6:1 was more inline with what it should have been. I modified the brake pedal lever to about 6.5:1. Obviously a great improvement. It was just plain dangerous originally.
Welcome from another So Cal'er. Nice looking car. You need to join the 52-56 Ford group on here and post your questions there, you will get all the answers. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=332

Yup, My friend Johnny C. Now lives on the East Coast as of 4 years ago-ish I'll take some picks of the rear notch in the frame and the front bags for ya.
One of my first cars was a 54 2 door Victoria with a 239 - I used to keep a piece of 2 by 2 under the seat back to keep it up. Still miss that car. Welcome Aboard!
Thanks for the welcome all. So far I have repaired or replaced everything on the list. Just need new glass and a few bits here and there.
