Well it's been a few months since I registered here and years that I have been visiting this website/forum. Have enjoyed reading all of the MANY different perspectives, suggestions, advice & of course seeing the variety of cars here. With all of us here in Pittsburgh "trapped" in the of middle of our annual "Winter Blues" (aka cabin fever) I am struggling to get thru while also keeping busy and not lying on the couch watching reruns of NCIS all day & all night. Have spent the better part of last Fall and this Winter re-doing the front of our workshop. It was originally built for motorcycles/choppers but after some health issues limited my riding days my wife & I started getting back into hot rods, drag racing, cruising, etc. Then last Fall made a GREAT trade for a Opel station wagon that is setup for the drag strip. I plan to convert it to a street/strip gasser. With it being so "small" it will easily "fit" into our workshop..... except the doorway was too narrow...... sooooooooooo I torn down the front of the shop & widened the doorway..... and of course "while I am at it..." have added quite of bit of "extras" (wiring, lighting fixtures, shelving & wood trim, insulation, etc) in addition to a complete repainting of the entire shop. Needless to say it has taken me MUCH longer to complete than I originally estimated.... "so what else is new"..... ha!!!! Hoping to get started working on the Opel someday soon..... more about all of "this & that" later..... now where did I put that paint brush????
John welcome from the west coast of Florida. In many ways you are lucky living in the Pittsburgh area because it is a hot bed of racing activity. I have many friends in the area and they have some pretty wild shows going on. I understand that the local Quaker Steak and Lube now as a room full of stuff from the old Pittsburgh International Dragway. Best of luck with your new project. Jimbo
Welcome from Indy. Didn't the Rod Shop in Columbus have a Dodge Colt wagon? Your car reminds me of that. Maybe Google it and see.
Thanks everyone for the "welcome"!!!! I did have the Opel at a few cruises last Fall. With NO lights, turn signals, etc, etc. etc and also a tendency to run HOT in stop & go traffic so I did not drive it too far from home. The Opel was built to go 1/4 mile at a time so I have "lots" to do to make it "street friendly" and lots more to be "street legal". 70elim ....We regularly go to the Friday night cruise at Mineral Beach and also Sundays at Caste Village Shopping Center. Do you live in the Pittsburgh area????? I am hoping for an "early Spring"..... and cruising again!!!!
I haven't heard of the PID room. Which Quaker State & Lube location is it at???? The guys that used to work & race at PID are an active bunch. In addition to have a nice historic website (http://www.pittsburghinternationaldragway.com/ )with lots of pics (Bill Truby Collection) there is a booth at the World of Wheels Custom Car show every year (Jan) - a dinner (Feb) - PID Day at Pittsburgh Raceway Park (July) & Reunion Cruise at Sonic (Sept).
Thanks..... Been wanting to go to the Norwin Shopping Center Cruise for awhile. Saturday evenings as I recall???? Got so many things that need to be done before I can take the Opel anywhere other than the cruises that are nearby. So it might be quite awhile before I can get the Opel out there. I also like to go to the Friday evening "Starlight Cruise" in Wexford (especially on Chevy night). As you probably already know it is the East Coast's BIGGEST weekly Cruise night" (2000+ cars)
