55 no center bar and only for the top of the line Amiral others have the ugly 3 bar grille. 56-58 have the center bar. 59-60 no center bar but a design that reminds me of a french fry cutting machine.
Zed, the center bar is bolted on tabs, the tabs are welded on the grille bars the way it shows on your grille. Your tabs have been chopped off.
The bars are welded on the chrome surrounding, it's only 59-60 that have the chrome surrounding separate from the grille.
Your grille is easy to repair with some stainless U's

I knew of a Vedette coupe for sale for the last 2 years, frame off resto, all chrome done the engine and interior needed to be refreshed. I think it was sold about 2 month ago...

James D, the place you're referring to is run by a german I believe and apparently they like to trade too, especially if you're married...

The Fregate in which Pierre Lefaucheux died might have been modified with a 2.0 twin cam Alfa engine or a souped up engine, apparently he crashed at 150 kph : a speed that's impossible to reach with a stock Fregate.

That's a later Vedette too in the background (in post 92)? One came up for sale here recently with the flathead v8 etc, didn't make a lot of money, but I was fetching my Fregate from la belle France at the time so left it be.

Coupe in post #86 - fabulous...

Damn shame. It´s still pretty damn nice though.

Would you leave those tail lights on there? They look a little strange to me.

    Hey Zed,

The Aronde grille I was talkin was a 1960 model, kinda Fregate like without any centre bar.

The grille bars on your Fregate grille look very easy to fab, as their shape isn't complex or highly shaped. I'd build a form from steel plate or hardwood, and form thin stainless steel ones from thin sheet. You could even shear a longer piece, & break folds in the stainless, then cut to length & weld to a frame/surround.;) Too, you could make them outa brass sheet, and have them plated, but I'm guessin plating ain't no cheaper in France than California?

  11. I took 5 1/2 inches out of my 54 GMC hood it wasn't as hard as I was lead to believe
Same truck I removed the roof crown by using the back half of a 55 Chevy 4 door roof
My 48 ford 3 window coupe has a 912 Porsche roof skin
All the above were done with free parts that I found

More expensive and crapier unless you do all the prep work until the guy just have to dip them. That's my experience since I know both places:D
As one of them told me in a much cruder language: "We can but we don't want to..."

    That looks bitchin.
Great respect for what youve done. Its so rare to have that kind of restraint when tacklin such a job. You basically perfectioned the proportions without even reaching a mild chop.
    Hat of to you.
