This was supposed to have had a transmission out of a mid-late 50s Corvette, and after looking at pictures on the internet, it does look just like a C1 Corvette mount... The holes measure 2" center to center I think.... not like the typical chevy turbo 350, 400 etc. mount... Are the rear mounts different on the earlier Chevy transmissions? Trying to figure out what trans was actually in there..
Any reason you can't modify or replace this mount with one that fits your ****** of choice? That would seem to solve the problem, unless I am missing something here. Ray
Well there are a couple of possibilities here....maybe more. When you are comparing measurements with later transmssion mounts, are you measuring the spacing of the tapped holes in the trans case/tailhousing itself, or the spacing of the holes in the base of the rubber mount that sits on the frame/crossmember? Because the holes in the ****** aren't necessarily the same spacing as the mount cushion pad. Another consideration is that, as you asked, is the possibilty that earlier ******s had a different spacing on the trans case itself. The '55 thru '57 Chev p***enger cars had no mount on the trans at all. The engine was mounted at the front and at the bellhousing and the ****** just hung out in the air. Made for easy removal when doing repairs. Vettes though, so far as I know, did have trans mounts in those years. When GM intro'd the X frames in '58 trans mounts were adopted. And lastly, maybe it didn't have a Chevy or Corvette trans at all. It may have been something else. Other than just satisfying curiousity, it really doesn't affect your build. Ray
