Edelbrock 6089 Head Gasket

    Which head gasket would be best for Edelbrock 6089 aluminium heads? My SBC has been bored .30 over so it it is a SBC 355 with flat top pistons.It is a early block pre 86'

    I like the Cometic comc5399-040 for my hi proformance engines, not cheap but really dependable

    cheaper is fel-pro fp1010

    First you need to know deck height of pistons @ TDC in the block, then you figure what thickness gasket you need to get .040" minimum clearance between head and piston.
    Cometic gaskets are great but seldom needed in a normally aspirated gas burning engine. Back in the day I ran GM stainless .016" thick embossed. They sealed real well on an engine with good flat deck and head, but take care on that .040" min. clearance!

    I forgot to mention that it is a pre 86' engine block. What is the difference between Felpro 1010 and 1003

    1010 is for aluminum heads, softer fire ring
