I have a 28 RPU that I have installed a V8-60 and trans from a 37 Ford. Received Eddie Meyer heads with it, purchased headers from Red"s and Edelbrock intake with 2 92's. Should I have Bubba do the diving bell dist or buy an aftermarket crab dist? Which would work best for me? Thanks

Pick up a cheap original '42 crab distributor and have Bubba do it.

The diver helmets can run essentially the same works as crab, but are MUCH harder to work on...the huge helmet hits everything as you try to get it out, while the super short crab just slides right out to be tuned and timed on the workbench. You'll need an adaptor to conver the bolt pattern up front.

Or a new front cover. I usually pick up the two-bolt covers at swap meets when they are under $10, and I've got a lifetime supply. They are out there.

I think Joblot or Mac's may even sell new/NOS ones for reasonable cost as well.

Edit: Just checked, and Mac's has the front covers for $47.

    No 2 holers for a 60!

  7. Why not rebuild a crab yourself? It's not rocket science. I just did mine.... completely stripped it and rebuilt using new parts from Macs (most of which were labelled Made In USA) and it runs like a top.

Still a little confused about the adaptor/spacer. My distributor was attached to the block by 2 bolts. Does that make it a 2 bolt? Or do I still need a adaptor to get the crab to fit? Thanks to all...I'm learning!

If you have a helmet that is OEM 60, this is a '37-41 type used on both 60 and 85...it has FOUR boltholes in distributor, 3 of which fit 60, and different choice of 3 fits 85.
A '42-8 distributor has 2 threaded holes in front cover, 180 from each other, and a 3rd hole that is unthreaded vac connection. I do not believe a 2 bolt cover was ever made for 60... and remember last 60's in USA were produced before the crab even existed.
Count actual holes in your cover...
