i'm on the fence about running a rear bumper. the final ride height is another 1+1/2 inches lower in the rear, i'm running different fender skirts and i eliminated the recessed roll pand with a smooth one. whats your honest opinions?

I like those cars with no bumpers, the body has such a good flow already

the roll pan installed now is a stock panel, they were rolled with a slight peak in the middle that matches the one at the front of the roof

Bumper. Makes the rear end look longer and lower, both of which are good things. And it looks too 1970s without it.

I love the look as it is but that's a lot of sheet metal without any protection at all. I wonder what a simple nerf bar that just looped around the top of the license frame kind of similar to a 49 Chevy license plate guard but a real solid steel nerf bar that sat out a couple of inches from the body. Just enough to protect from the errant parking bump.

I only like rolled rears on trucks. But I also don't see a good place to put a bumper now that wouldn't cover taillights or the licence plate.

  9. I like this idea as well. I think that they look good bumperless but I back into things myself so a nerf bar would be a good idea for me.

  10. Bumper, definitely.

The side profile will thank you!;)

I did a very similar treatment on the back end of my panel truck, but I think you will find once she is painted up and finished it will look really bland without chrome. I managed to solve my problem with some chrome accents around my Frenched taillights as I could not refit a chrome bumper because of wheelchair access issues. However, on yours I think a bumper would look cool and help to extend the rear end a little. Perhaps even two wraparound quarter bumpers with your license plate in the middle.
Best of luck whatever you decide

Since you've kinda blocked a useful bumper your might consider a nice pair of nerf bars coming out on either side of the plate recess and cleanly curving around the body a few inches from the pan then slipping back under just around the bend at the fender end.

My current build car has a rolled rear pan which I'm notching to bolt a bumper back onto it. There's a point where smooth becomes bland or "blobby".

Guys who do not run bumpers have to have very deep pockets and a good supply of spare parts. If you actually drive the car someone somewhere will bump it, go with a bumper the name says it all.

I drove a bumperless car into downtown Portland one time in my life and parked it, and yes somebody "crash-parked" it. I had just finished taking all the dents out before. So, bumpers for me. Did they leave a note? No.
