I've started tackleing the rust in the 59 Plymouth. Yuck. I've started cutting out dead rockers and floorboard but took a break to tackle the eyebrows. Both of them were rust, bondo and fibergl*** patchwork already. I found some patch panels so it should be easy but I'm never happy. You guys who can do this and not need some bondo blow me away. Here's the front right.
looks good, great start. unfortunatly there's only one way to get better at it. if you get bored, jump around to different areas of the car. helps keep you interested. once it's done you be proud you did it yourself. good luck and keep at it, springs coming!
What's not to be happy about? Looks good, all metal..... a little filler is no big deal, its not like you are sculpting with it.
Be proud my friend, be proud, it's gonna come out just fine. Take solice in the fact that you're doing it the right way, and like was said earlier, a little Rage filler is not gonna hurt anything. Looks good!!
dude, that looks great to me, if i was turning out great neat work like that i'd feel pretty good about having kept the old ****** alive with my own time and skill.....as long as the bondo isn't inches thick its a perfectly acceptable way of making a good job perfect....your doing great. F
Looks good to me so far, I am thinking that is going to turn out better than you expect. Besides,,you work cheap so you can afford to grind and sand again and again..I also am not good at body work. Round is a tough shape to follow,,that's why I painted my own vehicles either flat or light colors to hide my lack of talent..
Looks good so far. Install the headlight trim now to be sure things line up. Nothing will piss you off more than thinking the patch panels line up and things will fit after primed & blocked. Bob
Where in the world did you find patch panels for that thing???? It looks like you did a good job...a little skim coat of filler won't hurt anybody. Make SURE you use a Mar-Gl*** style waterproof filler on all weld seams no matter how good your weld job is. There will always be pin holes where water can get to the backside and bubble your Bondo. The trick to Mar-Gl*** is wipe it all along your weld seam making sure to push it into any little pin holes that might be there, let it cure, then sand it down till it pretty much doesn't exist anymore. Then cover with your favorite flavor of Bondo. See ya, -Abone.
Thanks for all the kind words guys. I tend to be a perfectionist, although that'd be hard to tell from my cars. When I run my hand over it I grimace a bit. It would sure be a lot easier but cream??? :-( I'm thinking of following the crowd and going with a metallic red but a metallic copper wouild be cool too. Thanks for the Mar-Gl*** tip Abone. I've never done much body work so the learning curve will be steep. I've lucked into new, albeit imperfect rockers and that side piece. The eyebrows are from the early sixties. I can't find the fender lip for the back quarters. They're a mess too.
Not blowin u up mike, but people learning, jumping around makes it worse, cause now you got your problems everywhere and you lose focus,! Kerry, do one section at a time, move on when your done! And the nicest cars in the world have filler on them! It's inevitable .
not happy ! test fit everything it looks great to me Now about that locker next to the car you might want to throw a little bondo in there, Lol
