My sister gave me these pictures last year. She got them out of a box full of pics at a yard sale. 2 look to be from the same drag strip. looks a bit like an air strip. 3rd one, dont know. From looking at all the cars, looks to be mid/late 50's. Any help appreciated!!! I really like the color one. Belly tank with a T bucket body grafted onto the back.
The nose on the blue digger has Eugene, Oregon advertising, pickup has Oregon plates. Al Drake could give us details down to what day it was ...
After much closer looking, I dont think the color picture is from the same track. The color pic has what looks like pine trees in the background. The other pics dont look like pine.
Chrisman's dragster was only run once before being painted.... don't remember which track it was at. The 2nd one.... maybe Carlsbad? The 3rd - Colton?
I was thinking the first pic looked like Bakersfield,, With the trees in the background & the hills/mountains in the distance. Second pic looks like its on an air field landing strip to me. Look how wide the race area is.
Those are Douglas fir trees in the background in the third picture, that and the writing on the hood make me think McMinnville Or.
I was thinking the last pic was Scappoose (sp?), Oregon. I think all the pics are of airport based drag strips. Unfortunately, those are from before my time. Butch/56sedandelivery.
The color photo had to have been taken in the mid 50's The newest cars in the photo are the dark colored Cad sedan and the Red Corvette along with the F100 push truck. I'd say that it was a northwest track. From looking at the Madras track on Google maps it isn't the one in the color photo. It may be one of the black and whites though.
I'm with Mike on the third picture. I'm pretty sure that's McMinnville. I grew up around there and we used to street race on the county road that ran parallel to the old dragstrip in the late 70's/early 80's. Those barns in the background sure look like the ones that used to be along the road.
Picture #1 with Chrisman's car looks like Riverside to me. Looks like the turn 9 wall in the background and houses around the track. I could be wrong, but again, I could be right.
the first one looks like Riverside...you can see "Turn 9" in the background opps...JimSig already got it
I do believe JimSig is right. I was thinking Riverside too. Heidelberg Speed Shop. One of my all time favorites.
