I'm replacing my original PCV system on my 390fe with new plumbing and new valve. While I was hooking everything up, the crankcase outlet adapter that goes in the intake came out easily. Is this normal? I placed it back in and started it up and noticed that I have a vacuum leak coming from that location. Is there any way to tighten it up so it wouldn't do this? I grabbed the shop manual and it said if the adapter goes into the intake more than 1/2", to replace it. Been looking around and not finding one in site. Any ideas out there?
I am running a 390 in my truck but it uses an aftermarket intake. I have no idea what you are talking about. Is this some kind of rubber grommet that goes into the intake? Is the PCV valve in the valve cover on your engine? ANy photos so I could get a better idea what you are talking about?
Thanks for the reply. This Pcv system is the stock for '64 390 fe. It hooks up to the back of the intake that is the adapter. The adapter looks like a shot gl*** with a hose connector on the side. The adapter just slides into a 2" hole in the back of the intake. I have no pics yet but will take them to further illustrate what I'm talking about.
if you dont get an answer here go over to the FE forum. Just google FE forum. Thoses guys KNOW FE engines, theres a few over here though that may beable to help. Paging MeanGene.....
I have a few 390's out in the shop with the early setup still on them, pretty basic but it works. Just a hint, but when the shop manual was written there weren't any helpful products like RTV sealer- which works pretty well if you get everything really clean and use a thin coat- it doesn't take much to hold that fitting in there, and it doesn't fit very tight- you have the one that comes straight in the back, not the one that bolts in from the top with the wire screen basket, correct? IIRC '64 was the last year for that setup. That one out the back is just one generation up from the old road draft tube
Thanks for the reply Gene. Yes, this PCV system comes straight out the back of the intake. I will try the RTF and see if it holds in the adaptor and solves the vacuum leak issue. Thanks for your help. Kyle
I did a similar search with my 352. Got sent to the FE forum as well. Lots of great info there! They did mention a grommet that fits in that hole from NAPA that let's a PCV valve fit perfect! Don't remember the part number, but someone posted it there. Hope this helps! Good luck!!
maybe that grommet was in the HELP section, theres all kinds of grommets over there and thats what I used for my valve cover pcv.
I hope you guys can see this diagram. It shows the entire PCV system for the '64 390fe. It plugs right into the back of the intake. The adapter looks like a shot gl*** that has a hose connector on the side. I'm going to try to do what Gene said and let everyone know if it works. Sounds like it will. Thank for the replies folks!
