Hello from New Hampshire. Just signed up to hamb today. Oh, wait a minute. Let me turn down ZZTop. It's so loud I can't type. There...that's better. I got the idea from reading around on line that this might be the best place to rub elbows with the restoring and building greats. I bought a 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup, 5 window. The body and chassis are amazing. No rust anywhere. The truck is gorgeous. I just need to replace some stuff and get the carb figured out. It has a 1956 GMC 270cid engine and I think they took the carb off the 216cid it had originally and reused it (Carter YF 964s). So my question is what carb did this engine have originally, Zenith? Stromberg? Should I go original or is there another carb that would be a no fuss great running carb? Oh ya, the smell in this truck is almost more nostalgic that the look of the truck. It's sort of a combination of leather, my uncle Frank who didn't take a lot of showers, and petroleum products. I really love it.
Well, I'm no help on the carb question, but it sounds like you got a real neat truck, with some family history. Your comment about the Uncle Frank smell reminds me of my grandpas old Ford farm truck, which not only had his sweat smell embedded in the leather, but there was also an air of cow and hog dung. I wish I could take another ride with him to the sale barn, hauling a load of critters........ Welcome to the HAMB!!
