Hot Rod have souls ! Long story, but it all started about 5 years ago, scored a 1931 deluxe Model A roadster been restored in1961 bought at an auction in the Wichita area, gonna e-baY it. Bring it home on my trailer and my 40 coupe,"Maggie" is sitting in the garage on the house when pull in with the 31 on the trailer. Maggie is sitting headlites out in the garage and as I open the door she sees the 31 on the trailer. Plans are to move Maggie out to the shop and put the new 31 in her stall. Shes pissed! Has never let me down all these years and she refueses to start and move out of her nice cozzie stall and give it up to this bitch 31 roadster. So we end up pushing her out of the garage at the house and shove her out to the shop. Post the roadster on e-bay and start working on Maggie, got fire, got fuel, got it all just ain't gonna start. End up selling the roadster and Maggie gets healed, runs great! dun nuthin.............. Now its 4-5 years later, been drivin the shit outta her and start playing with the 29 highboy and the 30 coupe and ignoring Maggie.,and the Bitch throws a fit. Running down the road 1/4 mile from the house and she starts crapping out( flathead)get her home and convincinced its the cheap ass chinesse fuel regulator and causing her to flood, $46 later and a good Holley fuel regulator and I figure shes healed, idles good , take her our, craps out again, next is a Speedway carb kit (97) go through all that shit tonight , idles good ,even pull the top off the carb and watch the needle and seat work with the electric fuel pump and all looks goods, take her out and she craps out again!!!!!!! Shes pissed cauze I've been spending time on the others girls. BITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But they do have souls! Now i gotta pet her for a while, teller shes number 1 and she'll be fine...............Spooky!
i only read about 1/4 of your post...until your car had a name naming a car...bad carma never trust any car that has a name or anyone who has to name a car....i have a few cars....none of them have a name
i donno man...my buddy has a '69 (i know, too new, but its no TOO new) Lincoln Continental Mark III, named "La Poderosa" (it means The Mighty One in spanish) and its never given him any problams...and trust me, he beats that thing to shit...
Robrt. Williams....."Real hot rods have soul" But he also daid---" you build hot rods to get away from girls", so why would you refer to it as a girl???
Name it after a boy if you wish, but I'd keep that one to myself.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cars do have souls. I think engines do as well. Small case in point; little brother drag raced his Henry J for many years with a series of built 455 Olds engines. He picked up a DRCE engine - billet this, billet that, but no one cared since it dynoed at 1040 HP - and figured he'd run the good running Olds until he could swing the $1200. ignition and $1200. carbon fiber clutch and all those little and expensive things needed to get the DRCE running. He'd never blown an Olds engine and that includes running stock - but peened - rods up to 8000 rpm on a regular basis. You guessed it, his 15/1 alcohol engine with all the good stuff took one look at the DRCE and self destructed at the next race. The damage was so extensive that the block was windowed, the magneto was sheared off and hanging by the wires, the forged crank was in three pieces, much of the cam and many lifters were nowhere to be found. All that was salvaged from the Olds were the Batten heads and the fuel injection setup. He was out of drag racing for about 18 months until the DRCE got running. Cars are like women. You have to treat them nice to get where you want to go....

Thanks for all the comments, Calmly went out to HER this morning , told how nice she looked , stoked her a little, fired right up , put her back in the shop, and gonna rip the shit outter now.
Interesting little story and I couldn't agree more. Cars do have souls. Especially the one's that you build, not just buy.
could agree more , you build them and they have some of your soul in'um, really its kinda kool though.
Ohhh I could not agree more. and ... may I add ~ I'm sooo glad I'm not the only one !!! Talkin' sweet to the car works. Waxing works. Thankin it when it does good, works. Slamming the doors does not. haha. Smiles, Diana
Had a '57 two-ten pseudo-drag car for the street...it hated me! Every time I took it out for a drive, it broke...front wheel fell off once while braking, freeze plug simply fell out of the 327" while driving, radiator always overheated, even without running a thermostat...Hurst four-speed shifter jammed way too often, carb flooded way too many times, even after overhaul, electrical system always caused problems, brake lites worked when they wanted to, sometimes the brakes worked they wanted to and many other small things...doubt I put over 2000 miles on it in the five years I suffered with it...I finally sold it!
