So while most of the GMB's were at the down river cruise i got told i had to stay home today and get the house in order for the party tommrow. so i spend all day doing the damn things for the women and when she left for work i left for woodward.

Im lucky enough to live 5 min from the famous cruise spot. It was a hoping tonight let me tell ya. i pulled into one of the local stops and it was just packed in there but as i dragged my *** end thru the parking lot i was able to get a spot from this 63 impala that was leaving. So i hung out there a while let this younger middle schooled aged kid sit in my car and took some pics of him in it for him. he was a cool kid and i hope he builds a kustom some day because i wasnt a **** to him like all the other guys there.

so fast forward an hour or so i had left the spot i was at to cruise a bit and cought up with some guys i know from another board. they are all younger guys like my self but they build imports and ****. i messed around with them for a while so im still kinda into the local scene a little. well i felt out of place sitting with all these hondas and ****. but low and behold down woodward i see a 1950 chevy fleetline..

turns out it was stickylifter from the hamb here. well he got wind that i was out on woodward and since he lives near by and was his way home from the downriver gig he decided to hunt me down.

so he pulled into honda row right in front of me and we shot the **** for a while telling storys about dumb **** we did while being drunk. some time p***ed and it was time to head out. he needed to get home and i said ill cruise down woodward with for a bit since i had to go the other way but i wasnt ready to head out yet.

there was some talk about whos car was faster his fleetline with the nicely equiped 350 or my 50,000 mile used 305. well i dont know if he timed the light just right so we could get next to each other or if it was ment to be. but there we were on historic woodward ave with two hotrodded sleds waiting for the green.

i hollard over "your going down" as he laughed it off the light changed. it was on i nursed it off the line so i didnt spin the tires but im preety sure he just layed her down right there. we were neck and neck the whole way i broke second loose then i heard him do the same. at that point i think he was ahead of me by half a car. but after i crawled up into some higher rpms i was right next to him again. then we shut em down.

well the mighty little 305 built to fathack specs held its own up against the big bad 350. id like to do that again at the track and adjust my throttle pedal so i have full throttle. i got it set up so i dont get into her to much so i only get about 3/4 out of it.

But man what fun that was it had to be a sight seeing to old primerd sleds laying into it side by side. it gave me goose bumps:D im sure that wasnt the first time two hopped up 50 chevs went at it on woodward.
sorry for the long winded story there guys i just wanted to share. i just kinda felt like i was in a time warp there.

o ill be there. i didnt really build my car to drag race and beat on. its just suppose to look cool and drive slow. but man that little 305 has some tourqe. sure its prob only in the high 15's (if even that) but she is fun to beat on. i have to look over all my welds on my rear suspension tommrow. im still worried that that stuff since i just used my 110mig to weld my control arm brackets to the frame. but hell if it falls out it can be fixed:D

Street racing is DANGEROUS and illegal!

I can't be ***ociating with you wreckless hoodlums!

hahahahaha.... 15's.... let me know when you wanna line 'em up.:D

I liked your story, but I liked it better when I was in the Chevy II racing a blown '64 GTO on Woodward... maybe not as exciting to you, but I thought it was fun!

Nothing like wheels up on Woodward, right Bryan? ;)

Does that other board happen to rhyme with Xceed Speed? I have a few posts there. They've got mad respect for my Saturn, yo. Well, maybe not, but it's good to keep your finger on as many automotive pulses as you can find.

I guess I'll advocate this hot rod street racing stuff as it's better than the races I usually see on Woodward - F Body versus crotch rocket. I don't know what it is, but I see this matchup all the time. Loud, but not too impressive.

    but what kills me is:

    Nicely equipped?!?

Dirty thinks that if you have an air cleaner on your carb, that you're all high tech and ****. :)

I gotta say though, his car moves pretty good considering it's missing 45 cubic inches. :) He says he has some secret SkinnyHack mods... real Area 51 type stuff...

Don't let him talk about your lack of air cleaner B. He must not have seen your lightweight composit windsheild!

Dudes, accept it. I'm just totally hard core. No hood, no grille, no back seat, these things save weight... the list of ol skool race mods goes on... no turn signals, no hub caps, "lightening holes" in floors, special lightweight steering wheel... in this manner I am able to compenseate for the weight that is added by go-fast gear (i.e. Chromium Encased Induced Air Filtration Unit, Chromium Encased Brake Fluid Resivoir Cover, Chromium Encased Thermostat Housing, Chromium Encased Engine Oil Level Checker...)

It is a simple fact of physics that less weight = faster car. Brian just can't sacrifice his luxury engine accessories, so his engine weighs more despite his hard core racing mods (lightweight bulletproof windshield, super-featherweight grille/front bumper ***embly, lowered wind resistance/center of gravity).

    My advice?
You could lose some weight by:

    1) Using a shorter throttle return spring, like cut it down to 24" or so...
    2) Sacrifice fancy fabbed alternator mount and go with something smaller, like a bench vise.
    3) Switch from 30.06 bullets to lighter hollow-point bullets.

By the way, I don't have any problems with this tech post being added to the archives, since I know someone will ask. You're all welcome!

    Later!

He's for real man! Before you showed up we had a kid stall out his super duper stang When they got it pushed up to where we were he popped his sweet hood and there in all of the gloriousness that is the downriver dream cruise sat a red Toro leaf blower with extra lightweight 15 ft. extension cord.
You're not hard core man, How many times have you told someone your car stalled because 180 is just to hot...then proceed to dump water on your starter while telling people about how you cut a full second of your 1/4 mile by adding a leaf blower turbo induction!?!

You gotta be kidding me. I know not to drink the water downriver, but there can't possibly be THAT much lead in it. You sure it wasn't an air cleaner cover? A lotta guys don't know what those are...

Besides, 180 ain't hot compared to the INSIDE of my ride. I depend on my engine to act as a heat sink for the interior of my car. Ask MercuryMan1951!

lmao hahaha ill get right on those mods. but dont forget i have smaller rear tires that are lighter. no "Chromium Encased Engine Oil Level Checker" light weight styrafoam shift knob. and ultra light weight hood pins i.e. chromoly chain with 5/16 bolt going thru it. and super light weight 4 wheel drums. so you have only begun to get close my lightweight pimpness of my ride. perhaps over time you car will be able to compare to my super indy racecar technoligy.:D

That leaf blower trick is totally old school. Matter of fact, my uncle Herb taught me that. Here's a picture of Herb and his pal Jimmy "Peaches" Raconi at the downriver cruise last Friday.

Also, here's a pic of the mods I'm woking on at the moment...
