Does anybody remember the Dan'l Boone corvette?

I asked this question in another thread but the thread itself wasn't getting much attention and fizzled.

So back to the question at hand. The car originally belonged to a guy named Jerry Boone and ran around the streets and tracks of southern California (he was living in Riverside) throughout the '60s. He did a lot of street racing and hung out with the L.A Streetracers.

The car itself was a '61 Corvette with Candy red paint with gold and I think green flames. Hard to tell from the old pictures I saw. Dan'l Boone was lettered on the sides and it had a hard top. The engine was first a 301 Chevy with a magnesium blower and Hilborn four port injection. It ran on Nitromethane and was shifted by a four speed linked to an Olds rear and a straight axle up front. It also wore magnesium wheels. The car later ran a 377 Chevy and both engines were set back in the ch***is 10%. Even swilling Nitro, it was regularly street driven and ran mid 8's at the track.

I would like to find something on this car because Jerry is a friend of mine and he has always wondered what happened to the car and thought that maybe if he found it he could buy it back and restore it to it's former glory.

Yeah ,I 'member Boone's business card "Racing by appointment only" ! He and his mate Perez used to cruise through Vegas on there way to God only knows where . That 'Vette was a legend and I've also wondered what ever became of it and Jerry. His pal Perez was a first cl*** artist/illustator . He did a black deuce 'ster print for a friend that was unreal in detail !

  5. I remember seeing an magazine article years ago about it running in the 8.90's and street driven. I thought it would show up in the vette threads.
Can't remember. What west coast magazine . Maybe Hot Rod .if you talk to Boone ask him.

I used to live in Riverside, back in the day did my share of street racing in my 56 Chevy. I was lucky enough to see the Vette run one night. I was glad I wasn't the guy that raced him. lol
The Vette was trailered to the race in full drag gear. Beautiful car!

Now we're getting somewheres!!!! I am happy to report that Jerry is still goin' strong living here in Idaho. Snaptwo, He's told me about those cards and I always thought that was awesome, but I don't think he's showed me one. He's also showed me pictures of Perez' work. Cool stuff. See, I am only 28 and I am good friends with Jerry's son, but also became good friends with Jerry as well. We talk often and I love hearing his stories about the good old days. I also did up a mild custom '60 Pontiac for him a few years ago and now were talking about a '60 Pontiac roadster for the Salt, his new focus of speed. He also got BIG into '60's GM trucks.

He's a great guy though, so let's see if there is anybody out there with any more info! I appreciate it guys!

Glad to hear Jerry is living in Idaho and enjoying life, he always seemed to be a laid back guy . You guys have it good up there with guys like the "New Crew" at Firebird , they always treated the "Wing" gang great during Nitefire. If Jerry is looking to repop "Dan'l" there is a guy in St.George , UT that has/had the molds for a '61-'62 Vette. Nice looking piece and light !! Spence

I dunno about recreating it, but he does talk about trying to find the original car. He wants it back pretty bad. He is a laid back guy and he has a small farm about 40 miles from Boise, along with a few '60's Chevy trucks, the fore-mentioned slammed '60 Poncho, and a '29 Ford RPU that's real low. He's like me and likes 'em really low too!

Made me laugh Tex***peed! I like ya already!

I saw this car pulled into the "Big T" parking lot in Pomona, Ca. on a trailer. This was around '66 or '67. He came to race the Wilson Bros. Crank car, owned by Eddie Wilson, a 32 roadster. They unloaded the car, squirted fuel into the injectors, fired it off and it was pretty spectacular at the time. I did not see the race but as I remember it Eddie won!

nice 'paragraph' - have you ever considered selling all the ink you saved by not using any punctuation? Hard to take you seriously when this is your first post and it looks so juvenile.

Still searching for this car. The motor has been located and jerry has been spending a lot of time in calif. Po****, jerry was reminiscing the story of the race with eddie wilson tonight, said the vette ran out of fuel leading to eddies win. He re fueled the car and bugged another race out of eddie but he declined. Afterward he pulled the fuel tank and installed a bigger 8.5 gallon tank to keep that from happening again. He also told me about running the dudly doright chevy once where the corvette ended up being launched in reverse. The car had to be push started due to running a locked distributor at 50 degrees advance. They pushed the car and it fired a bit past the line so it had to be backed up. His driver forgot to pull it out of reverse and about ran over someone. They lined back up though and blew Doright's doors off. Apperently that race got busted but not before they caught wind the cops were coming and shoved the car, truck and trailer off into the orange grove where the cops couldnt sèe them. Afterward Jerry was at a Denny's and overheard two CHP officers talking about the race and proceeded to let them know it was indeed his car that did the reverse launch!

  21. It is heartening to know that the HAMB Grammar Police are out there, protecting us against poor punctuation and the, occasional, dangling participle.
Guy explains what happened to the car and all you can do is fault his writing skills??? If he had stood next to you and told the exact same story, would you have called him juvenile??

Glad this thread is getting turned into a 3rd grade cl***room. We are trying to locate a car, not be concerned with errors in a person's grammar. In all reality, that post divulged valuable information as to the most recent whereabouts of the car to date, and for that those of us in search of the car are very grateful and following that lead provided to us by Mr. T Gl***. Keep topics unrelated to the car in question off this thread please. This is a serious deal to those of us searching for it. Serious enough that there may be a possible 1000 dollar reward offerd to the person providing information leading to the purchase of said Dan'l Boone corvette. Thank you to those staying on topic.

I met Jerry when I lived in Las Vegas - great guy. Once when he was in Vegas someone stole his dog - who rode with him all the time in his truck - which I think was a malamute or something like that. Jerry looked for the dog for a couple weeks then had to go back to Riverside - like two weeks later the dog showed up at Jerry's place in Riverside. As best we could figure, the dog walked all the way back to Riverside. I've got one of those cards somewhere in my stuff..................

Every post, including this one, is a "bump" for your original query. I wish you well in finding more information.

  26. Hello! Jerry Boone here. Posting a couple of photos may help in the quest for my old Corvette. Hope they help! Thanks for all the comments... Really brings back some good memories! Racing at Fontana in 1971 and the last photo taken at Gary Canning's car show at the Orange Show grounds in San Bernardino in 1972 - not positive of the year. image.jpg

Great looking car Jerry, really hope you can locate it. How did you locate the engine after all these years? Posting some pictures of the car in the hope it can be found. What you did with the cowl on the setback may help and the trunk is very distinctive as well.
