I'm looking at picking up a 42 Ford coupe project. I'm wondering if it will accept the later front clips as well, like the 46-48?

Body and all rear sheet metal same/similiar, cowl same. Answer is yes

  3. They didn't change the tub for '46. You just don't like the look fo the '42?

Anyway the front sheet metal should be interchangable, you may have to change the trim as well.

It is missing the front clip and front frame from the cowl forward, but I know where another one is that is the later year and I have a frame waiting for this.

The hood are different, and the grille of course.

Fenders and innerfenders are the same

The trim around the parking light differs 42-46

Otherwise its the same as 46.

In short yes it fits :)

complete front clips can interchange, mixing pcs from different years can be more tricky depending on what you want. sometimes the difference is only very minor.

I never seen a pic of a 42 Ford. They are rare because of the war years. Please post a picture.

  10. They look almost like a merc. I have a real sweet spot for '46s but I could learn to love a '42 that's for damned sure.

I have genny 42 hood and both fenders for sale, left over from a project.

I'm in the Portland OR area.

Please answer me this: What color(s) is the body of the coupe you are looking at? It is possible that the hood and right fender I have is what was originally on the car.

The front frame was tweeked a bit, and the interior floor cut loose for frame mods.

    Thanks, Bill

Just wanting to know where the car ended up.

This car is/was blue. Has a hacked off frame in front of the cowl. I have another roller ch***is to mount this on hopefully in summer. I do have the front clip but its awful rusty. I have somebody who has a 46 sedan that was dumped over the hill that has a good front clip. I will rescue it when the ground gets a bit more solid come spring. The floors are great. This is the short or sport coupe as opposed to the longer coupe, the business coupe. I may have that backwards, at any rate mines the shorter. I could really use a new grill though. Mine is not only in rough shape, but someone at some time, used a torch to hack off the front fenders and cut the front clip in half. I can probably save half of mine.

I just stumbles across a spare set of grill inserts for my 42 sedan today... That stuff is out there.

  14. You missed me by about six months. I just sold a 42 club coupe, and a ton of parts including most of a grille and a hood. The stuff is around if you're patient.
