Although I might have second thoughts about running spindlemounts on a road course track next time...it sure was fun at the time. I will apologize for the shaky video now...my 11 year old (at the time) took this with my pocket camera and I think he was watching me more than he was watching through the viewfinder. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/7-KDp1CvzQk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Beats sitting in a lawn chair anyday. Wish Goodguys ran the autocross in Puyallup but I now space does not allow for it.
Great job with the video, I was almost sick with the motion but could not look away!! LOL. I always thought it would be neat to have a hot rod that handled like a race car. Your hot rod looks really nice. Well done you guys.
Thanks guys! I definitely doesn't handle good enough to do this very often but it was still a blast to try a few laps. Since the spindle mounts on the front require disconnecting the brake lines in order to change the tires...I doubt I will be abusing them on the road course unless I change out the wheels first.
Cool video, hay your kid did good and that sedan hauls ***. Looks like fun. Next year let him drive and you video .
awesome to see a rod doing what it's meant to do! Could you explain what "spindle mounts" are. I'm not familiar, and am really intrigued by the predicament you would be in if you got a flat!
Ohh, yeah! ****** knuckles givin it hell.... Me... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaeeNhbWsuc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zEhDLhWaAA&feature=related
Very cool. Looks like a little understeer- typical for a street car. Can you tell us about your setup? Springs, shocks, tires, alignment specs?
Spindle Mounts were originally designed for racing purposes. In this case, drag racing specifically. They were lighter due to no need for hubs, lug nuts, etc. Due to the fact drag racing wasnt harsh on the front tires...spindle mounts were functional due to low maintenance, light weight and aesthetics (or at least I think so). As for suspension, tires, setup, etc...this definitely isnt a road course car. Its just a hot rod intended to go down the road at a steady and sometimes high rate of speed (did I mention it has 4.11 gears with a 6-speed? It only turns 2300rpm at 100mph). It has a dropped axle, disc brakes all the way around and big & littles. Yes it is top heavy (its not chopped...LOL) so understeer is obvious. It does have anti-sway bars front & rear, but it could use stronger versions...but dropped axles dont lend themselves to lots of room for these luxuries. Nevertheless, its about as much fun as I can stand. I was smiling all day after running that road course. Still am for that matter...
I'm not going to argue with you guys on the overdone street rod vs hot rod dilemma. You call it what you want and I will do the same. I didn't build this car (again, and the 4th time between my dad and I since 1965) for you to approve. I built it for me. I like it and I drive the hell out of it as often as I can because it's fun at the time and I know I can rebuild it if I break it. This car has been my only transportation at times in my life. I've taken it hunting, pulled boats with it, and hauled travel trailers (the kind you sleep in...not the kind that hauls your coolers and crying fender babies) halfway across the USA. So if your life is so ****ty that you have to shovel some on someone else in order to make your day complete then so be it. The ugliest part about this site are the ***holes who constantly ***** and complain about someone else's car only because it's different than "their own" idea. I still remember my dad always chasing down another old car when we would p*** them on the road just to meet the other owner and look at his car. We were (I still am) just glad to meet someone who took the time to create something with their own hands regardless if they did it differently than we would. We have always been secure in ourselves (knowing what we can do with our own hands) that we didn't feel the need to chastise someone else's car just to make ourselves feel better. So if it makes you feel better, knock yourself out and **** on someone else (or me). I'm going to go shift gears and drive my hot rod!
Prolly not the best auto crosser but definitely the best lookin'! Just to get through it that fast is a tribute to the build. It's a hot rod!
That is one hell for good looking car that goes like stink. I'd say if is a full on hot rod no matter what the gotta have primer and rust or it ain't a hot rod boys say.
Congradulations on the at***ude adjustment. Looks fantastic to me, what a riot to get to drive the course. Keep up the good work and drive the **** out of it!!!
I"d say it is one hell of a good looking hot rod that goes like stink. Even if it isn't a 61 Chevy, now there are some "real"" hot rods.

Before it gets out of hand and Im adding to it. I like your 34 no matterthe descripition. As post 19 says you built it for yourself and no one else. My hats off to you. Have fun. Love the history behind it also.
Troy, don't let a few comments from a couple of guys get to you,I like your car and wouldn't mind it sharing space in my garage with my cars. There are always gonna be someone here that is going to have to jab at you. HRP
x 10 - great response. I saw those negative comments when I first opened this thread and thought what a bunch of *** holes. Rock on man.
Great post and reply to the haters, Troy. Love your car too and I think anyone that is trying to insult you by saying it a street rod in stead of a hot rod should post photos of their own bad *** car.
