Finally I'm getting a few minutes here where I can try to catch up!

I don't have a ton of time so I'll just get to the photos for this post.

There's always a nice selection of FED's at the KC WOW.

I see this Merc a lot so I hope I'm showing it off well enough for you guys, sometimes I don't take shots of the cars that I see everywhere as much. This one certainly deserves to be shown.

A beautiful build. I don't have time to look it up right now but do yourself a favor and go find the shots that NotStock Photography took of this beauty, just amazing.

That's it for now, I'm heading out the door, I'll be back with more later this evening and when this show is done I'll post up photos of the 2012 Starbird show in Tulsa last weekend as well. Then this weekend it's off to another show...

    See you at a show,

The Merc you've shown is owned by Ross Rodenbeck in Colby, Kansas...it took him over 10 years to build that car, it is sectioned and chopped.

Thanx for including the pic of my '55 Caddy here, and was good to see you in KC...too bad we didn't have more time to chat...am still flabbergasted as to how big the KC show is...and how big Bartle Hall is...never walked so much at a car show in my life...

Hopefully we will cross paths again this year, it's always good to see you even if it's just for a couple of minutes. That Bartle Hall is one huge building!

I know nothing about this 27 T Roadster except that it belongs to Joe Boyles, does anyone have any history on it?

Congratulations to Ron Dubberstein & his 1955 Chevy "Exota" for winning 3 Excellence Awards at Kansas City World of Wheels! His awards were for Best Radical Custom, Best Display and BEST PAINT. Paint & body by Chaotic Customs and airbrushing by Redhouse Custom Paint.

Chad Kolman showed up with a 1947 Buick that was very very nice. 3 year project from what I was told. I can't wait to get a chance to take more photos of this beautiful new kustom.

Thanks for the compliment, I didn't make the show until Sunday this time, but it was a great show! Thanks again!

Yeah that roadster and the 47 Buick were my 2 favorites of the new stuff that I hadn't seen before. Tons of great steel at that show though!

Yes slightly warmer...but man now I want one of those steaks, thanks for reminding me!

Joe Boyles is a good friend and I know a lot about the car. Joe's dad, Ray, is the nephew of the local KC circle track racing legend Junior Hower. Ray finished the car in about '62-'63.

I painted it for Ray then and I see the paint has survived nicely. The paint job was quick and easy; when Ray brought it to me, it had a perfectly good metallic bronze finish. I merely wet-sanded the bronze, laid down quarter inch tape around the body lines, fogged pearl white over the tape, pulled the tape and cleared it. In and out in an afternoon.

Originally in the '50's, the car was raced on the circle tracks by Junior Hower, then Ray got it and built it for the street.

When it was last shown in the early 60's, it had chrome reversed Buick rims with proper size whitewalls, slicks in the rear. The Halibrand-style slots are a later addition.

  15. I tried to get a good pic of the Rod and Custom display they had set up next to it, but it didn't turn out very well. I think it was featured in '65 or '66?

Wow! Not only a very cool car coming out of the woodwork for the first time in dacades, but the guy who painted it is right here on the HAMB.

Wow, thank you for sharing that with us. It's always interesting to me to hear back stories on the cars I see at these shows. Very cool to have this extra history to go along with the photos of this amazingly cool rod!

    Thanks again!

Thanks for showing the car, Travis. I had forgotten how cool and perfect the car was after all this time. I had heard from Joe's Uncle Stan here in Phoenix that Dad had given Joe the car and that he was interested in bringing it out.

Suprised Joe hasn't come on HAMB yet, he loves to talk about this car, and you can see why. When you bring this car up his eyes light up, he steps back and his chest puffs out and he takes a deep breath....and he starts in. Definately has love in his eyes.

Thanks for following along on my adventuress everyone! I checked with straykatkustoms on Exota and he confirmed that it's a Starbird car but he's not sure if Ron owned it back then or not. I will ask a couple of the other guys and find out more info.

I attended Starbird's 1959 show in Kansas City and Ron had the '55 there so if he still owns it, he's had it for at least 53 years! It was a mild custom then. The Crimson Skull, I believe it was called.
